===

[00:00:00]

Welcome to the Architecture Social Show
---

Will Ridgway: Hello, and welcome to the Architecture Social Show. I'm with Drake and I'm also with Steve

Stephen Drew: and Drew. How are you doing? Hey I'm all right. I'm good. We work with each other all day now because we're back from furlough, isn't it? So it's so we're, but the good news is actually we're both not on furlough.

Stephen Drew: So the architecture market. is surprisingly busy, which is great.

Exciting Architectural Projects and Events
---

Stephen Drew: So in this show at the moment, I've got some really cool videos that we're going to enjoy. We're going to watch. We've actually got a few architectural jobs that we're going to go through as well. I've got one or two events that are going to happen on the architecture social, including the book club.

Stephen Drew: And I have got a candidate. Oh, I say, I've got one or two buildings. I've got two building projects.

Badass Building of the Week
---

Stephen Drew: And we're going to vote, which is the new award, the badass building of the week. Okay. That's good. They have the week. Yeah. The badass building off the week. And soon as I, what I'll do is I'm going to [00:01:00] do a little, I'm going to get a next week.

Stephen Drew: I'm going to get up. I'm going to dust off my Photoshop skills. From my part one and my part two. I'm gonna do a little badass badge for the badass building of the week. I need like a, I need like a graphic that goes Badass building of the week. .

Will Ridgway: That'd

Stephen Drew: be amazing. So we got all that coming up.

Casual Conversations and Lockdown Life
---

Stephen Drew: Nice T-shirt.

Stephen Drew: Hey Meza, thank you. I thought what I would do is because. We're all a little bit in lockdown. We're all a little bit, I've even got shorts on at the moment, so I'm imagining that I'm on holiday. I

Will Ridgway: feel like the background of it looks like beach feeling as well. Has like a beach feeling, yeah, the yellow and pink.

Stephen Drew: Dr. Liz says that instead of the badass building of the week, should we do the carbuncle building of the week? No, Dr. Liz, I don't want to be taken off YouTube yet and I need to make friends with Arctic Practices. But if a building was particularly bad, you know me, I would tell, I would say, guys, this is your best building.

Stephen Drew: Okay. We need to go back to the drawing board. Literally. [00:02:00] Okay. So should we roll on? We'll roll on. I've got here. Let me bring up the YouTubes. Me and Will move to the side. Oops, it's this side, isn't it?

Amazing Train Station and Mental Health
---

Stephen Drew: And we're going to start off with a little bit of eye candy. Cause, I think we need a little bit of excitement in this world at the moment.

Stephen Drew: Welcome. Okay, so this is, Oh, I should have read the description before I played it. It's on the amazing, there's an amazing channel on YouTube, Cities of Future, we touched upon it last week. I've subscribed to them now. So I will highlight and all these links will be put on YouTube. We will put all the links.

Stephen Drew: I will put them all at the end as well, but you can check it out. So this is a super cool, I think it's like a forest train station, but we'll load it up while everyone's here. Let's while we're looking at this amazing train station Gregory says, keep well, remain vigilant about your mental health.

Stephen Drew: It's true. Do you know I've got [00:03:00] my I've got my exercise bike coming, Will, and you can see, look, my double chin is slowly going away because I'm basically not eating at the moment, Will, and I'm miserable, but I'm starting to look better.

Will Ridgway: Yeah, you haven't eaten since last week. It's showing, it's showing well done.

Stephen Drew: Thank you. I'll everyone, maybe what we should do as well as the bad ass building of the week is we can see a Steven's Louise keeping up with the diet. I'll give you a report on my kilos. Simon Bay, greetings all. Simon, good to have you here. And Gregory is doing a little shout out to Dr. Liz. I absolutely spoke with Dr.

Stephen Drew: Liz last week. It was brilliant. We had a good laugh, Dr. Liz, me and you are going to set up Dr. Liz's laboratory on the architecture social. How cool is that? Amazing. But look at this though. Look at this area. You've seen all this. It's like this amazing. So it's it's a bit like a forest, funky forest train station.

Stephen Drew: You don't have them in South Wales. That's all I'm going to say over here, either. [00:04:00] No, I know. Hello, Amanda. Lovely to see you. Oh, I'm going to be on a podcast soon. I'm going to be on the one to 100 podcast which is going to be great, but it was a bit of a hoot. It was a bit of a whoop.

Stephen Drew: So you can check out this link. I'm going to put the, I'm going to put, let's put the link now. So for anyone that wants to see more about this amazing train station, can you just imagine actually going to this place? So I

Will Ridgway: really I really architecture builds that have that environmental factor, the environmental environment around it, like surrounding it.

Will Ridgway: So it's ingrated into it. So where you have like the trees in the side and it's just all over the building. It looks amazing. It looks very futuristic as

Stephen Drew: I

Will Ridgway: think.

Stephen Drew: This is it. And I love that. But you're right, it almost feels a little bit too futuristic. Not too futuristic, but There you go.

Stephen Drew: Dr. Liz not happy with my comment. Oh, we go to Grimshaw Station in Newport. That's right. Normally when I'm in Newport, Dr. Liz, I'm going straight through it. Do you know what I'm saying? I'm going from Swansea to London. With my Wayne in the air. Bye! [00:05:00] Okay for clarity, I love Wales. Okay, I'm Welsh. I'm proud to be Welsh.

Stephen Drew: I do being Welsh. Let's go. Next thing. Not quite Wales. Dr Liz, we need to get a Welsh building for next week. That's our challenge, me and you.

Urban Art and Graffiti in Brentford
---

Stephen Drew: Okay, so what I've got now, this is the Brentford project. It's a little bit architectural, but what I quite liked is, um, like a little bit of urban art?

Stephen Drew: I'm not gonna say graffiti because it transcends above that. I thought it was really cool. We're gonna go back. This is like on our doorstep. So this is in Brentford and I think it's Ballymore Group. They did this as well. Okay. So they took an existing building, painted it. I would love to see more and more amazing kind of projects like this.

Stephen Drew: I went to Berlin last year and not last year. The year before, wasn't it? Will I forget? Last year? Yeah, last year. You didn't go anywhere last year. . Yeah. I didn't go anywhere last year. But the year before I went to Berlin, and Berlin has so much of this kind of street art and graffiti everywhere, it's [00:06:00] amazing.

Stephen Drew: I think it just makes it look different,

Will Ridgway: As long as it's what's the word? As long as it's, yeah, as long as it's

Stephen Drew: it's too in your face, it looks amazing, I think. But this is in your face, isn't it? I quite like it, that's bold. It's a bit like my, but you know that from my style in shirts and t shirts, so I'm not subtle.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, I'm pretty

Will Ridgway: sure, pretty sure what's put on that building is on your

Stephen Drew: t

Will Ridgway: shirt at the moment.

Stephen Drew: I want that t shirt. Merza says, what software do I use? I am, what I do is architectural recruitment right now, Merza, so the only thing I can use anymore is Outlook and a telephone, but I did, I was certified. I was a Revit certified user in 2014, but I think I might be a bit rusty.

Stephen Drew: I

Will Ridgway: don't think you'd welcome a Revit test.

Stephen Drew: No, I would just be awful. I would just be awful. I would just be absolutely awful. So I'm going to put the link for here. So I'm not able to send these links, unfortunately, on LinkedIn Live, but everywhere else I can send the link. What we'll do at the end is we'll make sure that [00:07:00] if anyone wants to see these videos on YouTube, they can check it out as, as well.

Stephen Drew: Okay. Next building, right?

BDP's Community Park and Architectural Heritage
---

Stephen Drew: I wanted to do, let's see, I thought this was important as well. Because it's by BDP. I like BDP a lot. They, the guys that did that do the nightingale, aren't they? So if we get like a the third wave of coronavirus. They're the ones kicking ass and taking names and doing amazing buildings.

Stephen Drew: But this is actually not the Nightingale Hospital. This is by BDP. And this is a really nice community park. And now more than ever, we're taking walks everywhere. We've got to stick to the government guidelines in the UK. But you've got to get your exercise every day, haven't you? And if you're walking out, this is the kind of park that I would want to go through, Will.

Stephen Drew: Nice video by BDP. It's on their YouTube station. Not YouTube station. YouTube channel, Will. You can go and type in BDP and you'll find this video as well. Wow DrLiz is so a cad. Do you know what? I [00:08:00] only use MicroStation and Revit. In industry and I don't even know how to use pencils anymore.

Stephen Drew: I'm on the computer all day. You've got one up on me. The mirror looks cool in Rotterdam market hall. Super cool. I agree. Mamuna, I absolutely agree. Hey, Santa. How are you? Wow. We've got a nice little crowd, haven't we guys? Oh, I haven't even done any of my silly voices today. Oh, you're lucky.

Stephen Drew: My It seems that my little set, my little board is not working here, I think. I'm not able to do sound noises. I'm going to be half the professional next, but next week I will get the sounds back. That's unfortunate, but yay. Here we go. I think you can see here it's just a nice little video.

Stephen Drew: Let's move on though. You can check out, oh yeah, let me put the link everywhere if they want it, if you, if anyone wants to look at it.

Will Ridgway: So I think now more than ever, it's important to have that community space, be able to just go outside and, you know, get involved in the environment. Cause you go outside your door [00:09:00] half the time, just walk down the street, lots of cars and nowhere really to.

Will Ridgway: actually go where you feel like you can get some fresh air, really.

Stephen Drew: Absolutely. We got you. Dr. Liz saying, did you know BDP were founded in 1961? I didn't. Wow. A lot of heritage in that kind of company. Do you know what I mean? They are a good employer. I've been in the London office. It's quite a big office, actually.

Stephen Drew: They've got their own canteen and all this stuff. And I went down there one day and got myself a sandwich. Oh, wait, I shouldn't say this on live stream. I definitely did not pop into the can. I was working with them on recruitment many years ago. So amazing company to work for as well as that.

Stephen Drew: We've got Philippe. Hi guys. Hello, Philippe. How are you as well? We've got a huge crowd here at the moment. We've got everyone. It feels like we've got everyone, let's move on, I don't want to let everyone down. Let's entertain them, yeah. My flowers are not entertaining, are they, Will? Yeah, let's just move on, Steve.

Stephen Drew: I've got flowers here, I've got flowers there, but you're right. [00:10:00] We're gonna go, now we're gonna jump from the gardens of BDP, we're gonna go to, I didn't even know this, but It's a different kind of garden.

Revamping Paris: The Champs Élysées Project
---

Stephen Drew: This is Paris. So this is like a 250 million pound, or it might be 50 million euros. I'll double check that.

Stephen Drew: But this again is also on the YouTube channel. I think it's cities of the future. And so this has been given the go ahead. Of course it's in concept stage, but this is what they're going to look like to juju up. Paris. Have you ever been to Paris, Will? Anyone here been

Will Ridgway: to Paris? I have been to Paris, I think once or twice.

Will Ridgway: I was a lot, I was quite young though, so I remember it vaguely. Went up the Eiffel Tower although I don't actually remember it, but I know I did. Really? Yeah, and had some frog's legs, didn't touch any snails though, I didn't want to go. I don't want to go down that route, but it was it was quite nice.

Will Ridgway: I think it was around Christmas

Stephen Drew: time, around Christmas time. Where you go? Paris, you're right. Your namesake is getting a nice makeover. Absolutely. I love Paris. I went off. It's expensive, though. You need to take [00:11:00] a few pounds before you go. Hey, we've got to update my passport now.

Stephen Drew: This is a nightmare, isn't it? I'm slow at doing it in the best of times. Oh no. I look how cool this looks though. It looks like exactly the kind of. If you were in the community, I think you would enjoy. So what I do hope is that people do, I hope that this, because it's a visualization translates into the real thing.

Stephen Drew: Paris or Powys? No, I'm talking about Paris. I'm definitely not talking about Wales at home right now. Wow, we have got a crowd today, huh? We have got a good one. I'm absolutely loving it. Okay, so we've got, so here we go. I'm just going to read this out really quickly. The mayor of Paris has announced a 250 million euro plan to revamp one of the city's most famous landmarks, the Champs Élysées.

Stephen Drew: Oh, I hope I said that I'm going to embarrass myself. Do you know what? I speak English and Welsh. I don't even speak Welsh. So French, you haven't got a [00:12:00] chance. I'm so sorry. I'm just not going to be, not going to be helpful. Amazing. I agree too. What a great scheme. I will put the link to that as well.

Stephen Drew: Have I done this one, Will? Let me do this now. I don't think you have, no. So Martin, this is a approved project and the concept. This has not happened yet. That's my understanding. I put the link there so you can check it on LinkedIn. I'm not able to send the links, but you can find us on YouTube as well and you can get the links there.

Stephen Drew: On the architecture social.com/um, podcast, I will put the link up later today. So while I'm talking about that, you can you can find all of these about a few hours after they broadcast. We keep them there on the architecture social.com/blog. You can do that or you can join the architectural social community.

Stephen Drew: Which now is 3, 200 members and so I will post all these videos somewhere in the architecture social as [00:13:00] well. Really great community come a long way, you

Will Ridgway: know,

Stephen Drew: and

Will Ridgway: it's been really good.

Stephen Drew: Thank you. I enjoy it. And we all have a bit of a giggle there as well. So some other stuff that I've got here.

Stephen Drew: I've got so much, Will. I think I'm going to have to edit some stuff out as well. Okay.

World's Thinnest Skyscraper in New York
---

Stephen Drew: I wanted to, last week we talked about the second biggest skyscraper in the world, right? Remember it was that, it was like. It was, and it was impressive, wasn't it? But let me show you this one. Just bear with me now.

Stephen Drew: We've gone back to New York and this project's been around for a while but it's actually complete and that's why I wanted to show it. And I actually, if I, if for instance I ever Succeeded in life to the extent where you've got this kind of money. This is the kind of thing I would love to be in.

Stephen Drew: Oh, there you go. It's a subscribe button. I you can subscribe to my channel if you want. I'll link all the Architects of Social on YouTube, but thank you. This is the world's thinnest skyscraper created in New York. Okay. Let me do the, let me read while we're [00:14:00] here. We'll read the words in the words.

Stephen Drew: New York City has completed the most thinnest skyscraper. The 111 West 57th Street, which will soar above Center Park on Billionaire's Row. That's the key word though, isn't it? It's not just millionaires, it's billionaires. Billionaires. I know, it's just, it's, so this is Manhattan, New York scene. It is.

Stephen Drew: That's the crazy shit. I wonder, I would love the penthouse up there, but, and there's obviously going to be something in the middle, which stops it swaying. And all this stuff, but say fan, isn't it way there is, yeah. I would feel really like nervous . Yeah. I would

Will Ridgway: a gu of wind. You like, hang on .

Stephen Drew: Anyway.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, I know. Just wanted to. Bath. Taking a bath at that level. That is a fine bath. And look at this. You, so it's the biggest town in the world. In this 150 million penthouse, you've got two floors. Cause that's how, it's like double height. Here we go. I've got a few comments for us.

Stephen Drew: We will [00:15:00] shout out. And Merza wants to invest. Absolutely. You're, he's interested. I'm interested. Okay. And I'm going to, we're going to have to fight for it. But I think, do you know what? If I work like 10 lives, 10 lives maybe I can afford it. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. Something like that.

Will Ridgway: It's been incredibly incredibly lucky.

Will Ridgway: Maybe create a really. Amazing business rival Amazon, something like that, then maybe

Stephen Drew: we will have to do it. So moving on. So we got transformational as well. Thank you, Ellen. I really appreciate it. Appreciate it. I appreciate that you enjoyed that video. Put it that way. Okay. So a few other things as well.

Live Streaming from Chicago
---

Stephen Drew: I've got something really a bit different and a little bit interesting that we can, I wanted to show you probably not that useful now, but so I'd like to look at architectural practices, YouTubes, cause that's going to be really important for this show. And so she, and they go I say Janine, they have a live stream from their office in Chicago.[00:16:00]

Stephen Drew: So if you want something in the background, yeah, it's always on. It's always at the top of my feed. Live streaming, and you can just enjoy Chicago, right? And at first I was like, oh, okay this is interesting. But then, now I've gotten really into it, Will. Where every now and then I'll look at it and I'll see what people are up to.

Stephen Drew: Do you know what I mean? Because like down there you can see You know the, I think it's what's that guy's name who did the Olympics thing? Anish Kapoor, I can't remember. There's UK who did, on the, on the Olympics, you had that red you had that red. Yeah, there's like little, I think it was, I think it

Will Ridgway: turned into a,

Stephen Drew: yeah, he did this and it's quite famous there.

Stephen Drew: So what's interesting right now, we're probably in America, it's a six hours, but it's really early in the morning. Which is why you've got a few traffics here, but this in the day is packed. So I like, I love that. She and there you go. It's live streaming. You have a little look down. I can see everyone.

Stephen Drew: Getting their selfies and all this stuff out as well. Oh yeah, absolutely. [00:17:00] Yeah. Amazing. I completely agree.

Anish Kapoor and Chicago's The Bean
---

Stephen Drew: Anish Kapoor. Thank you so much, Sanjeev. That is exactly what I was thinking of. And he is really cool. He does some really cool stuff. Dr. Liz. Cool. Stayed in that hotel in Chicago on the right side. Staying in 2020, speaking at a conference.

Stephen Drew: Wow. The Bean. It's called The Bean and it's composed by The Bean. There you go. Here we go. And it's right next to a Frank Gehry aired or concert venue. Amazing. Amazing. You can check out that link if you want to see a live stream. We could do that. Maybe I should do a live stream of my flat in Lewisham.

Stephen Drew: You can have an update of Lewisham on the street. I'll put it in the balcony.

Will Ridgway: Yeah, that's

Stephen Drew: not going to be as

Will Ridgway: interesting as Chicago. But yeah, why not? Okay, I haven't

Stephen Drew: got the

Will Ridgway: bean.

Stephen Drew: Pollution

Will Ridgway: is up and coming. What do you have that you can showcase?

Stephen Drew: You'll have to get back to that now. Sounds it My eclectic [00:18:00] neighborhood. . Just madness. . Alright. Yeah, maybe,

Will Ridgway: We'll put it on the maybe pile.

Stephen Drew: Yeah. And I'll tell you what. All right. I've got a hidden gem here now.

Exploring Office S&M's Salem Road Project
---

Stephen Drew: So the next thing that's popping up is a completely hidden gem that I also found on the YouTubes.

Stephen Drew: And have you ever heard of the architectural practice? That's called Oh, it helps. Office S& M. Okay. They're really cool. They won the award, I think, for Young Architects, something like that. They did this amazing building called Salem Road. This video's a little bit homemade, but I quite like it because It's a YouTube channel.

Stephen Drew: They've got 10 subscribers, including me. Love you guys. And you can actually see inside here what the project is. It won the awards. It's a great building. It's got this pink outside and everything is so cool. And you can see indoors. And I just thought what I quite liked about it. It wasn't over edited.

Stephen Drew: It's nothing. I like we haven't loaded up Adobe Premiere. We haven't got the music [00:19:00] like, with the drone shots or anything. It's a little, it's, you can tell the architect with a bit of love has grabbed the handphone and gone around it. And, I've got to be honest, right? I really like their architecture, Office S& M.

Stephen Drew: Seriously. Okay. So if I was ever building my house, I would totally hit them up. They're like one of my favorites. They're one of my favorites. Yeah. Cause work wise, we work a lot with great companies. I'm just saying that offers S and M is like the guys I would probably be like, please, can you design my house?

Stephen Drew: On a personal, I think it's really cool. Cause what, not every. we haven't all got like skyscrapers in New York billionaires role. Do you know what I mean? So when I, if you're doing a house on a budget and you're talking about exceptional architecture, and when I say budget, not a low budget.

Stephen Drew: Here we go. That's it. So it won the awards because it's just super cool. It's like bold colors, it's very different, really good materials. I just think it's so impressive. When you

Will Ridgway: have any problems directing anyone to your house, you'll be like, it's the pink one at the end [00:20:00] of the road.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, that's true. Absolutely great. I put a link there and you can check out the YouTube studio. Sanjeev says check out Jack Studios too. Alright, cool. I will do that. We'll do that for next week. Make a note, my friend, because you know my memory can be a little bit hazy sometimes. I will do. In fact, I'll write that down now.

Stephen Drew: Jack Studio. And that build, and the house we were just looking at was called Salem House, so that was the Salem House tour. While we're here, oh, I've got so much, I think I'm going to cut it down a little bit. I wanted to talk about, yeah, we'll save some things for next week. That's right.

Upcoming Architecture Social Events
---

Stephen Drew: So what I've got here as well, let's talk about some events that are on.

Stephen Drew: Let's talk about events. Oh, I got it here. You can attend in your underwear. And so I've got actually. an architecture social event as well. Oh, it helps if I could bring it up on the screen, doesn't it? So let me do that now, but you have to forgive me. It'll be an admin mode because I run the [00:21:00] website.

Stephen Drew: Anyways. So this event is a reset. So we have our book club. This is a really cool event. And it's set up by two amazing people, Nilda, who runs the architectural experiment. And we've got Emily Foster as well. Who's an architectural apprentice at AHMM. Last week, we had 10 people in the group. Oh, and I can go to it now as well.

Stephen Drew: I'll show you what it's like in there. So when you're in the community as well, you can sign up to this event. It's here. You can, I'll put the link everywhere now. You can sign up to it. We're all reading this book. We're reading the book right now, which is 101 things that we didn't learn in architecture school.

Stephen Drew: And basically, we're on Zoom. We're on Zoom this week. Here we go. Oh, this one here. So we're on Zoom, we go on Zoom once a week, and as well as that, within the Architectural Social, we have, as part of the group section, here we go, you can see the ones at the top, we're work in progress, and the Arctic Shelf, so [00:22:00] anyone that goes to it, is part of the Architectural Shelf.

Stephen Drew: So the Arctic Shelf is the book club, and we can see here, we've got amazing content as well, around each session, so basically you can go onto the Zoom. Everyone can sign up and in between, you can have a little bit of fun, talk about your findings. And so the event is next Tuesday in the architectural social at 7 30 PM.

Stephen Drew: If you want to join us in the book club, you don't need the book this week or anything like that. But if you just want to get involved. Do check out the Architect's Shelf. So I am going to put a link, Will, for that now. Let's go back. Let's go back. Let's go back. I'm going in reverse. Okay, guys. So here is the event.

Stephen Drew: And on LinkedIn, I can't send that link. But if you go to the Architecturalsocial. com, you will find all the stuff there and you can basically sign up, you can join the [00:23:00] community. So I think that's a good one. What do you think? I think it's

Will Ridgway: good. Yeah, it'd be really, it's really fun. And it's just not just about all the books, it's about, people just coming together and having a chat, making new friends, so a lot of potential.

Will Ridgway: For it to grow even bigger than it is already.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, I think we had 12 people last week, so it would be awesome if anyone else wants to join as well. Feel free to check out that event and you can attend in your underwear. And if you join and you are wearing your underwear, I will salute you, my friend on zoom.

Stephen Drew: Okay.

Badass Building of the Week: Circular House vs. Temple of Steps
---

Stephen Drew: So now we've got a building off, like celebrity duos. We're going to have two buildings, I'm going to tell you which one's my favourite, you're going to vote for it, and anyone that's watching as well can say, shout out in the comments and say what is the badass building of the week.

Stephen Drew: Building, loosely, master plan. Guys, you've got to bear with me. I'm trying to work out this as I go along. But number one, okay, so in the blue corner. Ah, this is where I need my fight music, [00:24:00] don't I? Blue corner. Okay, blue corner we have this building. And these were both shown to me by Dr. Liz.

Stephen Drew: Okay, and these can be found on wallpaper. com as well. But we've got a perfectly circular home. Deep in the Polish forest. Okay, now this is just, the James Bond mansion, or what's the guy, what's Iron Man's name? Tony Stark. Tony Stark's Polish holiday house, you know what I'm saying? Look at this!

Stephen Drew: This is good for badass building of the week. Oof. Imagine going down there in the morning, having a cup of coffee. Oop, I went a bit fast there, didn't I? Let's go back. How cool is this though? Wallpaper. com's website. It's not full of banners. It's not full of anything. Big shout out to wallpaper. com.

Stephen Drew: I really enjoy all their articles. So you can see,

Stephen Drew: Oh,

Stephen Drew: I'm getting [00:25:00] flustered. Jump me. That bathroom is a bit open. There's a lot of windows in there. I think they own the land around there. Do you know when it's like first If they can afford this house, you can afford the land. It's not like in Lewisham where you can see even here now, my neighbours are watching me stream.

Stephen Drew: Do you know what I'm saying? This is like another league. So I think If you're Circular House, you need Circular Furniture. You don't need it,

Will Ridgway: but you may as well. It's a dead space. If there's some, if it's circular, you've got rectangular furniture. There's going to be dead space in there, isn't there?

Stephen Drew: Yeah, there we go. Everyone thinks it's incredible. Unfortunately, I do not live there. This is all on wallpaper. com. The next badass building. Okay, I think I'm quite liking this. I think we're going to have a few badass buildings of the week, right? So that was the blue corner, the circular. Tony Stark penthouse, okay?

Stephen Drew: Now in the red [00:26:00] corner! Red corner, we have, it's not a fair comparison because it's not a house, but We have Templar Steps named the best public building. But we hey, okay, this isn't houses award, but this is the baddest building award. Now, I think this is pretty badass because it reminds me of one of them Seven Wonders or whatever, in Mexico with the stairs and the, unfortunately, fruit cutter people and all this stuff.

Stephen Drew: Oh, these must have been the candidates. Let's focus on this one, right? This one was the winner. Okay, I'm gonna I'm gonna have to, what am I gonna do? This one was the winner. Okay. All right, I'll read it. Temple of Steps. Pictures on top. Mumbai based architect. Sam D. Padora was conditioned to create this temple.

Stephen Drew: Okay, let's get more pictures of this temple. Because I need, we need to win the award. At least give it

Will Ridgway: a fair chance to fight against the

Stephen Drew: Yeah. Okay. All right. Here we go. Pretty [00:27:00] cool. If I click this. Oh, here we go. You can see. Oh, it's gone to another tab, isn't it? Doesn't help. You're going to have to forgive me with this one guys.

Stephen Drew: We're getting next time. But basically this is I'm going for like the wonders of the world vibe, yeah, I see where you're going with this. So personally, yeah, I think that's it now.

Stephen Drew: On one hand, we've got the amazing, what's the building? Huh? What are the buildings? It's the community. Yeah, so it's like an exhibition, like a museum, like a cultural heritage. Tribute to the past. Really cool. So I'm voting, rather, so we've basically got Tony Stark's apartment, or the Temple of Doom.

Stephen Drew: Okay? I'm gonna, I'm inclined to give Tony Stark's apartment, circular apartment, The badass building of the week, what do you think will,

Will Ridgway: I'll have to agree with you on that one. That's mainly [00:28:00] because I was busy picturing myself lounging back in that bath, looking at the open countryside and um, and unfortunately that grabbed my attention ever since and I'd love to live in that, in the Temple of Doom.

Will Ridgway: But it's you can't live in

Stephen Drew: Temple. Do you can only visit it next week? I will do a few apartments and we'll vote which one's the best badass one. And you guys, the last thing, so Dr. Liz has voted for the house, I'm gonna call in one second, I'm just gonna do The badass building of the week goes to James Bond's house, the Polish circular penthouse.

Stephen Drew: Just amazing, isn't it? There's no

Will Ridgway: disrespect for the other building either, because that's also an amazing building.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, it wasn't fair. But while we're on that, so let's look at the rest of the article. Oh, that doesn't help, doesn't it? Oh, that doesn't work. Here we go. Let's bring it back up. So this one.

Stephen Drew: The award for public best new public building. Let's look at the other runner ups. So we've got [00:29:00] the temple. We've got this building. I don't know where it is. We'll look at the descriptions of the bin. I'll put a link to the article. This is quite cool.

Stephen Drew: Pretty cool. I'm back. So those buildings were Templar Temple of Steps and the shortlist was Meet and Toulouse Friends. Okay, by OMA. I do like OMA. They are in China. Townhouse Kingston, UK. Kingston, UK. There you go. Too far as in. So that looks pretty cool to me. All right. I think we've got a bit of a good overview here.

Job of the Week and Career Opportunities
---

Stephen Drew: Let's talk about, Will, your job of the week. So what I'm going to do now is I'm going to bring On the screen now, and then we can go through it. Do you want to jump out straight ahead with the project [00:30:00] architect slash job runner now I'm bringing up. I'm

Will Ridgway: I'm looking for a project architect or job runner that can it's going to have.

Will Ridgway: A role facing the clients, dealing with them, and then also helping out delivering residential based projects. High end based in London as well we're focusing mainly on stages three, four, and five. So if you're interested and you're using Revit, amazing, let me know and we can have a chat about that really.

Will Ridgway: Yeah, it's exciting, amazing practice as well. I'll go into more detail with you personally about the practice

Stephen Drew: itself. Absolutely. I've just put the link here as well. Really nice company. We've known them for a few years and we will, and this is quite a nice opportunity. Anyone that's done technical delivery, I've seen a project through.

Stephen Drew: And is there anything client facing? It's going to be a good place. They're not too big where you're going to get lost and they're not too small. I think it's really quite, it's quite a nice size. If that's the kind of environment you're looking for, I think you [00:31:00] can't really do anything wrong. Everyone's working remote at the moment, but when it goes back to normal and it will, it's a nice location in London.

Stephen Drew: So check out that link. I put it there. That's the job of the week, but a short runner for the job of the week, which is also quite important is as well. I've got a few, you can find them all on architecture social. com forward slash jobs. I'll put the link up here, but you can see a few of the jobs we've got.

Stephen Drew: I've got one in Leeds which is a landscape architect and I've got a BIM manager role I'm working on right now, shortlisting people over to it. And as well as that, and the other role, which is still live is this role, which you touched upon briefly. As an architectural technologist or technician.

Stephen Drew: So basically things to start to heat up. You can basically get in contact with me and apply for the role, or you can get in contact with cause we work on the same rows. You can find us on LinkedIn as well. If you were looking or more importantly, maybe you're not looking, [00:32:00] but you're, a friend that's in a bit of a tricky situation during.

Stephen Drew: Coronavirus get in touch. We would absolutely love to help. So for me, I think that's covered a lot here. We're going to get more events with next week. I'm going to focus on more other events in the community. I just wanted really to talk about. The book club album cabin in the architectural social next week.

Weekly Words of Wisdom and Community Engagement
---

Stephen Drew: As always, we've got to keep up some traditions in the architectural social show. So what are your weekly words of wisdom?

Will Ridgway: My tradition is also to always forget about this until you prompt me at the end. I

Stephen Drew: haven't got the sounds well, so here we go.

Will Ridgway: My weekly words of wisdom is to just, I don't know, is to

Stephen Drew: Come on, I can't keep doing this!

Will Ridgway: Basically, to just enjoy

Stephen Drew: You keep interrupting me, Steve. Sorry, it's really hard to get it very background y. [00:33:00] Okay, I'm gonna, I'm gonna, I'm gonna give up. I'm gonna,

Will Ridgway: I'm just gonna listen. My weekly words of wisdom would be to continue getting involved in your community whether that's online, get involved with things enjoy life as it is, enjoy what you can do, build up your CV and profile as well through these events and just

Stephen Drew: get involved.

Stephen Drew: Oh, on that note, oh my gosh, I've got to plug something in which is relevant and cool and let me know. You said get your CV up to date? I actually did. So if you, if one video isn't enough of me right now on this stream, let's play inception. You could find me on YouTube. Wait where I review cvs.

Stephen Drew: Look, it's me there. It's me here. This is too much, Steve, isn't it? Look, here we go. I'm going to use my concentration face. So I'm just building up the YouTube. I'm going to do more content. Obviously, the Architecture Social is my focus. Outside of work, when I'm not working, I am on the Architecture [00:34:00] Social.

Stephen Drew: Because I think it's really important. And basically I'm building up the YouTube because I see that as a way of sharing a little bit of content as well. And hopefully if it's appeared, this kind of content is really cool. I'll build it up and hopefully we'll get more and more stuff in the architectural social as well.

Stephen Drew: And what I would like to do is because we do podcasts as well. I've got one or two podcasts last week. But what we're going to do is I want more and more people from the community to have a bit of fun. So it could be interviews on the YouTube channel. Maybe we can do an interview with you. We could learn all about your career today, even though I know everything.

Stephen Drew: Because we can talk about your thesis and university. We can talk about where the infomometer is meant. I'll leave the bombshell for when the podcast happens, but you can check out me on YouTube as well. I will put a little one link to that. There you go. You can check out that as [00:35:00] well. And you can find me on YouTube as well as that.

Stephen Drew: We've got all the kind of stuff from before. I've got now you can see this live stream as well. You can see all the stuff we've done. I've taken out the podcast on there. Cause I think it should be focused on like the video. If I do like a video podcast, a video interview, I'll put it there, but all the audio stuff can be found on the architecture social.

Stephen Drew: So we'll leave it there. Thank you so much. Everyone that came on the lunch break. I'm going to do a last little shout out. Yo, guest, nice shirt. Thank you so much, my friend. I can't pretend it was for you, but you're always in my thoughts. There you go. And Adiel, hi there. Hello to you. And hey, I've had a really fun time.

Stephen Drew: If you've got any suggestions for any other shows, Let me know. And I think for now, we will see you next week. Isn't it? Yeah, absolutely. We'll see each other next week. All right. Bye bye everyone. Take care. Thank you for coming. Bye bye. [00:36:00] Bye. Bye.
