===

[00:00:00]

Introduction and Casual Chat
---

Stephen Drew: Hey guys,

Stephen Drew: I did the countdown too late, so you saw us, it's all gone peat tongued today. How is everyone in the world? Just open it up.

Will Ridgway: Diet coke, I'm on my diet, cup of coffee. This is a lunchtime stream, so we're joining everyone and eating their lunch at the same time.

Stephen Drew: Wow, that's good. Oh, let's go for a big camera.

Stephen Drew: Oh, hi everyone. Good to see you.

Home Renovation Updates
---

Stephen Drew: So as you can see, I am currently in the living room and I've got this popped up and I'm, I am doing this live stream. Off my laptop, because I am currently in the process of painting the walls, new carpet, [00:01:00] bit of home architecture. In the spirit of. The Architecture Social.

Stephen Drew: So next week or a week after what I'll do is I'll give you a tour of my new office and you can see the walls and I've gone for a green one of the rooms is blue one of them is red and one of them Is McDonald and company green as well, So anyways, welcome everyone to the architecture social, I am Stephen Drew and this is Will Ridgway. I just took taking your intro there.

Will Ridgway: That's all right. Did it better anyway?

Stephen Drew: No, you're the best.

Show Overview and Technical Difficulties
---

Stephen Drew: And so today we've got an awesome show. We're going to be going through a few videos as well. It bear with us today.

Stephen Drew: Bear with me more specifically, because I am doing this all off my laptop in the living room with a screen that doesn't work. And I need your patience. Is that your green

Will Ridgway: screen?

Stephen Drew: Yeah, it's my green screen and behind it is everything on my stuff, which is an absolute [00:02:00] gigantic mess at the moment.

Will Ridgway: You could have done so much better with your green screen.

Will Ridgway: You could have had a sunny beach, send you on holiday, get that beach feeling that we'll have hopefully sometime soon.

Stephen Drew: We're all returning to work it's the point. So maybe we, maybe we can do go to the beach. Gosh, it's probably not good to do a Diet Coke on a live stream, is it?

Stephen Drew: I'm getting all gassy! For our sponsor!

Will Ridgway: Yeah,

Stephen Drew: yeah. I wish I got a sponsor. Autodesk, hello. Anyways, moving on. I hope everyone's had a good week. Let's just jump into the good stuff, so So, oh, and Will, sorry, my laptop, do you see that? Look

Will Ridgway: at that,

Stephen Drew: ahhh! Okay, alright, okay. Let's go and let's do some stuff.

Stephen Drew: Will, this is your screen. Amazing. This is my

Will Ridgway: screen. I'll start with this one. Oh, can you hear the sound? Let me go and read that. No, I can't. Full screen now. That's good.

Everton's New Stadium
---

Will Ridgway: So, recently in the news, Everton's football stadium just got, I think, planning permission. It was so I found a nice little [00:03:00] video.

Stephen Drew: Trust you to pick this video, Mr. Paul. Yeah, I know.

Will Ridgway: You started it last week with Real Madrid's stadium, so I thought I'd continue it with something a little bit more local, although it's still in, Liverpool. It's a little bit far from where we are at the moment, but we're in the UK.

Will Ridgway: Yeah, nice little fly through of the stage and this is what was the proposed designs. I'm, not sure what how much of it changed since because this came out in the back end of 2019, but This is what it's more or less going to look like. So it's I think it's really cool. Some really cool stadiums, um, being done lately.

Will Ridgway: It's just nice to see.

Stephen Drew: I like it. I love the fact that it's right alongside the river. What a prime location. And you can see it's probably like the VIP lounge back there, isn't it? Which kind of look over the bay. Yeah. Amazing. That'd be really

Will Ridgway: cool.

Stephen Drew: Who are the architects then, Will? The architect?

Stephen Drew: Oh, that's a good

Will Ridgway: question. The architects, I believe it's gone through several people. I think Shepard Robson initially were doing it. I think it's since been handed over to Patton. I think Patton are [00:04:00] doing it at the moment. It's something that I'd have to, I have to double check. Unfortunately I can't check without going out of the video.

Stephen Drew: I'm getting vertigo going through these halls. Oh my gosh, look how fast this person's going. It's like a drone footage inside. Yeah, I know.

Will Ridgway: I know. This would be like the VIP lounge with a champagne bottle in the middle.

Stephen Drew: Oh, it looks so un VIP. Oops! Oh, that's the I'm sorry! Okay, now it's looking more VIP.

Stephen Drew: I have to remember, I sometimes I get comfortable live. I didn't say anything wrong there, but I got, look. Oh, that's cool. That you can see the footballers walking past. Oh, it's a one way window as well. Ah, yeah. Not to disturb them. That is pretty cool. Oh my gosh. Have you seen all this Twitch comments we're getting through?

Stephen Drew: I definitely can't put that on LinkedIn, but hello and welcome to the Architecture Social Show. How there you go. Look at this. Okay. Let's move on with another video. I'm [00:05:00] getting very go. Next up. Let's bring it to my screen at the moment. Okay. We're going to go through it. So what have we got here?

Stephen Drew: So I posted a few videos at the moment. We literally just had the MadCon over the weekend and things have been super busy at work. So I haven't posted as much as I'd like. But the show goes on. I really want to shout out to some people that we've worked with on the Architecture Social and awesome people.

Stephen Drew: And this is going to be stuff that's going to help you with your career. Okay.

Shoutout to Aussie BIM Guru
---

Stephen Drew: So Gavin Crump, who's the BIM guru and Australia. Oh, let me mute this as well. So I just want to show it to you because it's here. Oh, that doesn't help. Does it? I shouldn't have done it. Here we go. So this is the Aussie BIM Guru.

Stephen Drew: The reason why this is important is this is on YouTube and it's a course, which he's doing a course at the moment, but a lot of content he's doing is free on YouTube. So you can check out Gavin's channel and let's [00:06:00] see, it's up here. So type in Aussie BIM Guru, check it out. And this is a Dynamo and Revit tutorial for beginners.

Stephen Drew: This is why I'm on about it. It's beginners. So me and you can watch this and do the change in text case. He's got a great style. I've met Gavin. He's such a nice guy. And you can see he's got the screen grab and he goes through things. And what I really like about Gavin is he's got this friendly, approachable way of learning.

Stephen Drew: He's not very How do I say? There's no BIM jargon. It's super easy, and this is a great Revit Dynamo tutorial. So this is not sponsored. This is purely because I really like him, and I think you should definitely check out his stuff. If you want to learn Revit, then you should do it, because that's the way the industry goes, and what better way to do it from a really great chap who is the Aussie BIM guru.

Stephen Drew: So check it out there. I have not used Revit for many [00:07:00] years, so I've done even that. I clear what's going on here. Oh, I've got my certification in my living room. Behind there, I'm from 2014.

Will Ridgway: Does it have an

Stephen Drew: expiry date on

Will Ridgway: it?

Stephen Drew: Oh no, I think it was 2013, because I learned it the year before I went into recruitment, so I haven't used Revit in eight years.

Stephen Drew: That wouldn't go very well in the interview, would it?

Will Ridgway: No, I know. I haven't used so, I'm not even used to AutoCAD, so I'm even further behind.

Stephen Drew: This is it. Anyone who's here in the comments, let me know. It's 2021. There's road, the road signs are going to go back to work. What are you doing?

Stephen Drew: Are you learning Revit? What are you up to? I want to hear the comments during the show of what you're up to this week. That would be cool. Isn't it? I've got some comments here. We'll read some out. I've got Curtis, hey guys, always the insistence on the single linear camera, as you can see, it's impossible to really showcase a building in that way.

Stephen Drew: Vertigo indeed. I agree Curtis, and Curtis, [00:08:00] he does this really great architectural visualization company. Curtis, I think you could have done a great video on that and you're right. I think it goes a little bit too fast, but I'm going to be positive. Stephen's here. Stephen, always good to see you on the show, my friend, and always good to see you in the Architecture Social.

Stephen Drew: Sanjeev, bye. Always a silent helper. Sanjeev, I'd love to hear any videos you want us to show in good course, but hey we did lunch to get away from Revit. Be gone Revit, I banish you. I actually really like Gavin though. So you get why I did that one, right? Cause it's really helpful for people.

Stephen Drew: Probably important to mention, you can look at all the videos that me and Will Post on the Architecture Social. com sign up now, if you're not there and get involved. And I really want people to start adding videos because we will talk about them during these and we will go through it. So I've got here one or two other stuff.

Stephen Drew: So now we've gone from big [00:09:00] stadiums. I love the fact that we always look at different scales. Don't we? So here's one that I found in the next video we can do. I'm going to skip ahead because there is paid promotion off a watch at the start, but I'm not getting paid. So we're going to move straight on.

Stephen Drew: We're going to move straight on to the good stuff.

Small Scale Apartment Tour
---

Stephen Drew: So this is a really nice, very small scale apartment by Jack Chen. There you go. And so he took this apartment. Let's blow this up. Apologies. Looked all right before, but he made it super, super special. So let's see what he, there we go. Is this new?

Stephen Drew: Looks new. It looks

Will Ridgway: new.

Stephen Drew: Yeah. There's the floor plan. Here we go, guys. We're doing design as we go. Oh, this Diet Coke well, is a bad idea. . Here we go. Here's new. Much better. Look at that. I really like the, ooh, it feels like two houses. Do you know what I mean? Yeah. Like from this [00:10:00] perspective in the cinematography, it's all wooden, cozy.

Stephen Drew: Intimate would always, has like a hearty feel. Do you know what I mean?

Will Ridgway: I, that's why I love the word just because of the homely feel you get to it.

Stephen Drew: Look at that. The TV pops out. He's got the table. I love this use of configuring spaces. Super cool. I did my third year project on that, and let me tell you, it was not as innovative as the solutions.

Stephen Drew: There's a reason it was academia. So look at this. I love a little bit of the nature in the toilet. It's like the grass wall. That's really cool style. Oh, I'm actually doing up my bathroom at the moment. I will send pictures on here. Oh, I should at the end do some pictures when my flat is finished and we will get it on the Architecture Social.

Stephen Drew: And I, because I don't think Dr. Liz is here this week, what we'll do don't tell her, what we'll do is we'll call it someone's building someone's flat, and we'll get everyone, like [00:11:00] Dr. Liz, live to comment on it and see if she loves it or she goes, this is awful.

Will Ridgway: That would be brilliant! Yeah, you need to like a before and after, you like do a video, like little fly through as well.

Will Ridgway: Okay, the before

Stephen Drew: is this mess, before is this mess. What a great apartment. So I love small scales. If anyone wants to showcase their work, by the way, on the architecture social, if you're in architecture practice, we will happily go through and showcase your project. That's what it's all about.

Stephen Drew: Anything cool and interesting. That's what we're doing.

Cozy Cabin in the Canadian Forest
---

Stephen Drew: So moving swiftly on from the small scale, I'll show you one or two other things that I found as well is a cozy cabin in the Canadian forest. Now I thought we could look at this and then as well as that, we've got, I've got the link to how to book it.

Stephen Drew: So Will, do me a favor, go in another tab, find that link. And then I want you to, we're going to look at how cool this is, and then we're all going to guess together how much it costs to [00:12:00] stay here overnight. I reckon it's expensive. And so it's a Canadian forest. So Canadian dollars. How many Canadian dollars is it?

Stephen Drew: I reckon it's about a thousand pounds a night, which is what? One thousand four, three, four hundred dollars. Let's check it out. What's everyone been up to this week? Let me know your comments. Let me know what you've been up to. Oh, I've got some stuff here. Sorry, I wasn't getting many comments in. Here we go.

Stephen Drew: Great. No. She finished a Revit course yesterday and looking for an advanced course next. Check out the Aussie guru. Please do. Here you go. Stella, companies should surely provide refresher projects courses. I agree, Stella. Sorry, Stella. We were going to speak last week as well. I will drop you a message after this.

Stephen Drew: I've just been absolutely, everything has been going crazy at the moment. Meanwhile, I've been absolutely. Busy off our feet. We need to expand the team to be honest, Will, but I don't know whether or not I'll [00:13:00] get the green light on just that yet. But if we can expand, in what we do at McDonnell Company, in our day job, then great.

Stephen Drew: I'd love that. Because right now, I'm I've been really busy doing, we haven't had proper lunch breaks for a while, it was hard enough to do this one, wasn't

Will Ridgway: it? Oh no, I was getting into my exercise routine every lunch and last week it went out the window completely.

Stephen Drew: Oh no! And this trick as well. Oh mate, I hear you, I'm with you the same, I've got my exercise bike now so maybe we need to motivate each other.

Stephen Drew: Yeah. And maybe we need to do our morning meetings on the bike, dude, do you want to know how

Will Ridgway: much that, how much to stay in that house was? Yes, tell me. It's what's your guess? What's your guess per night?

Stephen Drew: I said a thousand pounds, so one thousand three, four hundred dollars.

Will Ridgway: It is four hundred dollars per night, so it's not as bad.

Will Ridgway: Oh, it's quite reasonable. Yeah. How many beds

Stephen Drew: is in there? Because then you can get your friends and go for a fun

Will Ridgway: time. Two bedrooms, two beds, so four guests in total, and one bathroom. Yeah.

Stephen Drew: That's right. 100, [00:14:00] 200 per couple. That's good. Yeah, exactly. You've got

Will Ridgway: your oven, your coffee maker, toaster as

Stephen Drew: well.

Stephen Drew: Okay, we'll do a shout out to the reasonably priced cozy cabin hidden in the Canadian forest. I

Will Ridgway: love it. That's where we can all go in the summer once we're free to do whatever we want.

Stephen Drew: I agree. Hey, look at this Will. Is this or is this not the best YouTube caption you have ever seen for communication in architecture?

Will Ridgway: How to communicate without words in architecture. Yeah, I just saw that.

Stephen Drew: And Hey, we're all a bit busy and stressed out, isn't it?

Archie Marathon YouTube Channel
---

Stephen Drew: Now, this is a really great channel I found on YouTube. So Archie Marathon, okay. You've got two architects. They talk about great subjects. It's got a real personal feel.

Stephen Drew: You've got here Star Wars. So we're off to an amazing start already. And what they do is every week they talk about really cool stuff. They can [00:15:00] talk about the industry. They talk about, the current things that are going on. They talk about architecture and then this one, they talk about how they communicate with models, how to communicate without words.

Stephen Drew: How do architects communicate ideas? And so it's a really nice chat. I love the way they do it. In a room We wouldn't be able to do that right now. But in the future, what I would love to do is this kind of thing where it's a bit more homely. And look at their office! Look at that Lego model as well.

Will Ridgway: Look at, it's such this is like the coolest office in the world. They've got Star Wars playing on in the background as well. They've got everything. They're not even watching it, they've just got it on loop.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, I think that's for show probably, innit, star Wars theme. But make sure George Lucas doesn't see this or he'll take it down from YouTube.

Stephen Drew: Copyrighted, yeah. But look, so these are great ideas. They talk about all this stuff. It's a really great channel. So check out Archie Marathon. I definitely like to reach out to them. I think it'd be really cool to get them on the social as well. And they seem like two great chaps and I absolutely love [00:16:00] their office with the plants at the top as well.

Stephen Drew: And so check out them. Okay. I've been absolutely hogging the space. I apologize. Please forgive me. What I thought now is we can get up your screen. Yeah. And we can have a little look. You've got a video ready, my friend. I have a video.

Will Ridgway: It's a video that you put on, so I'm hoping you might have some information to this.

Will Ridgway: Do you not know me at all? No, I know. That's why I warned you now.

Stephen Drew: Let's get up the local project. We'll go live. I posted this a while ago. There's a few things that me and Will have posted and we haven't got around to, so blow up the screen, Will, and we can just have a bit of fun, and we'll look at it together.

Stephen Drew: It does look pretty sick. Off to a safe start. I'll be honest, I like it.

Will Ridgway: It is. I think it's a home tour. That's what I believe it is. This is quite a large home. I think that's the neighborhood, as opposed to That's a nice little sculpture, and I presume that's the managing director [00:17:00] of KUD.

Stephen Drew: Probably the architect who did the building.

Stephen Drew: So probably,

Will Ridgway: yeah, lots of circular. Look at that. Bit of VSCO as well.

Stephen Drew: This is a bit easier though, because it's like stylish. It's very, it's a lot slower. It's amazing cinematography. It's really interesting how of course you need the architecture there, but an amazing photography, amazing, again, videos and interviews and all this stuff.

Stephen Drew: It really pushes it up to another level. It's amazing. I like it here. We've got one or two more comments. Curtis saying he wants that space with the figures and the Star Destroyers. I agree. I actually saw Curtis's because Curtis is on the Architecture Social as well, and he posted. What we did is we did a post.

Stephen Drew: It's probably not fair to do it on here. It's not fair to show everyone's. Desks outside of the community without their permission, but inside the community, it was one of them. Fred's Will, who hosted their desks and Curtis is a gamer like us. So he's got he's got a big [00:18:00] rig and it makes sense as well.

Stephen Drew: Cause he does architectural visualizations, but he's got the NVIDIA GT, GTX, God knows what. And it was really cool to see. Curtis, love your office. There you go. Words from the experts, cinematography makes all the difference. So I think this is actually One of the slickest videos we've seen in a long way.

Stephen Drew: Do you know, get what I mean?

Will Ridgway: Yeah, it's fair. It's the cinematography is very good. And it's, and the design as well is also very slick. So it works quite nicely.

Stephen Drew: Yeah. Do you know what I've seen a lot on YouTube? There's a big trend at the moment where you have. And not estate agents, but you have people which are invested in properties and they do a YouTube Hey, everyone, this is Steve and Will, and we are here at this property, which is on the market for 1.

Stephen Drew: 4 million and let's do a tour. And that first I was like, ah, gosh, here we go. And then actually I got totally sucked into them. So check out on YouTube. You can type in like London house tour and all this stuff. There's loads of them. And I actually saw one the other day, [00:19:00] which was like a penthouse apartment.

Stephen Drew: In King's Cross Station, the building above it, which was really interesting. We will get one or two on here as well, because I love touring around houses. I think it's really cool. While you're looking at that let me just spend a little bit of time.

Community Highlights and Artwork
---

Stephen Drew: I want to show one or two things on the Architecture Social, because there's been some cool stuff in the community and I want more and more people to participate.

Stephen Drew: So what I'm going to show here, so I'll go to my screen. So on the Architecture Social, there's an art section in photography. So this is within the Architecture Social. Let me get a banner up of thearchitecturesocial. com, so you can join it there and you can see here. It's a shout out for more and more people showcasing their artwork.

Stephen Drew: So we've got amazing photography here. David McKay. Okay, so David McKay, he's an interior designer and photographer and look at these cool pictures he posted up. Super cool. Makes me [00:20:00] miss London. Makes me, it reminds me how rainy London can be, but it was really cool to see photography within the community.

Stephen Drew: And we have as well, Rodan Sherwood, which is the director of an architectural practice, and he loves to do sketches of his morning canoe. As you can imagine, there's a lot of masks on, but how cool, if you're on the Architecture Social, get involved, post your artwork, post your stuff. Curtis posted some of his architectural visualizations before, let's see more and more of them.

Stephen Drew: Sorry, this Diet Coke, I will not have another Diet Coke next week, but I I've got to roll with it now. It is what it is, but nice pictures. I would love to see more and more photography and artwork on the social. That's what it's all about. In case you haven't seen the community as well, I've launched one or two new things.

Stephen Drew: So jumping up to the top within the architecture social, I've now renamed the spaces area, groups and spaces, because [00:21:00] there's a few really cool groups in the making and courses and resources.

Upcoming Events and Career Guide Update
---

Stephen Drew: So next week, we're going to be doing one or two stuff as well on events, and they're going to be. We, me and you soon are going to be updating the Architecture Career Guide for 2021.

Stephen Drew: This is something that we've worked hard on last year, and we're going to bring it back as well.

Discussing Architecture Salaries
---

Stephen Drew: Now, a quick interlude, and we will do a special on it, is the question of, am I being paid correctly in architecture? So a little bit serious for a second. Okay. How do you find out if you're being paid the right salary?

Stephen Drew: Maybe you speak to your employer. Maybe you speak, which is going to be, An interesting conversation because they're your employer. Do you speak to your colleagues and say, mate, how much are you on? Maybe. And then do you speak to your friends in architecture and try to find out how much you've been paid?

Stephen Drew: It's very difficult. And then we've talked about it as well. You've got all these salary guides online from recruitment consultancies. And at McDonald and Company, what we do in terms of our day job, they do a really good [00:22:00] architectural salary, which is factual. Okay. But, and let me bring up this, bring this up for dramatic effect.

Stephen Drew: How many architectural recruitment consultancies base their salary guides on facts? If you challenge any of these, are they able to substantiate where those salaries come from? I don't know. I'm not so convinced. Okay, so I have taken the problem into our own hands well.

Interactive Salary Guide Introduction
---

Stephen Drew: So introducing on the Architecture Social, we have here an interactive salary guide.

Stephen Drew: You can take a salary survey and the salary guide, you can do it here. You can fill it out. Okay. Oh, sorry. I just realized I haven't included you. I That's all right. I've shoved you out. I'll get you back in. Yay. There you are. [00:23:00] So you can fill out your salary in the architecture, social, or on architecture social.com/salary.

Stephen Drew: Okay. And you can fill this out. Do you know what? We'll do it live on the website. Okay. You go up to surveys, you go to salary. Okay. You go to the salary guides. I'm going to have loads of surveys. We're going to talk about the gender pay gap. We're going to do it all. And so this is all anonymous. I no longer ask for your name and you can fill out your salary.

Stephen Drew: Will, I was a part two. Okay. I was in London. I had two years experience. Okay. And I was paid 30, 000. Okay.

Exploring Salary Data and Future Plans
---

Stephen Drew: Now, right now, I program a response based upon the averages of the existing salary results I've got. But in the future, I want to make this number here, which you will see, pop up, reactive. Okay. So right now, the average for part two is around about 30, 000.

Stephen Drew: [00:24:00] Or a little bit more. And so what it says is this is above, I think the average was 29, 500 pounds. Okay. And then what it says here on this salary survey is it says you can request to join the Architecture Social. And then if you're already a member, it should take you in. Oh, it didn't do it there. I will make sure that works for next time, but Oh, that didn't work well.

Stephen Drew: But what the thing will do when it works is it's going to take you. To the salary hub area. Okay. And why this is interesting is that for the first time ever, as far as I know, we will let you see the salary results. They're all anonymized. You can see what people have said their salaries are. This is what it's all about.

Stephen Drew: So you can then compare your salary against other results. Now, because it's anonymized, I don't have all the information there yet. But we will in the future have [00:25:00] more and more information and what that will do is that paint a picture of the salaries in London, how much people are on and give you an idea if you're overpaid or underpaid.

Stephen Drew: Obviously an architect is not paid 80 grand. I don't know what someone's clicked that for. It might have gone wrong, but what we can see here and I'm going to bring up all this data now. We're going to do a topic on this as well, but I can log in to, oh, I have to be really careful. Bear with me, the GDPR.

Stephen Drew: Let me bring up your screen first, Will, while I do that, and I get to the right area. Okay. Yeah, that's a nice George King architects. Perfect. So what I wanted to show you I'm going to bring this back now because here we go. So wrong [00:26:00] screen, go back there. Give me one second. Okay. All right.

Stephen Drew: Amazing. I'm setting this up live. Don't worry. We're getting there. This is how we roll in the social. Our way around. Yeah, I know. Yay, that bit doesn't work, but what this bit works is, you can see here, I've got all the averages of everyone that's submitted the salary survey over the last year.

Stephen Drew: So we can say categorically a part one salary fluctuates between 18 to 28, and the bulk is their wealth. Yeah. And the bulk is here for a part two. It's

Will Ridgway: That's really good. So you can see, not just the average, but you can see the range of that average as well. The range and

Stephen Drew: the average.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, so there's some architect who's on 95 grand who's doing exceptionally well. And someone's paid a thousand pounds, so he needs to sort his life out. Probably an accident there. But you get it. What I like is that we can see the anomalies and we can take A baseline figure. So the average [00:27:00] salary last year in architecture was probably around 36, 000.

Stephen Drew: And what I'm going to do is build up this salary survey so that we start getting more rich information. We start seeing how much an architect has will with four years experience in central London using Revit. Working on residential schemes. Boom! How useful information would that be? You

Will Ridgway: know, I think really good and things like maybe a project architect, for example and how they might differ.

Will Ridgway: So somewhere between sort of an architect and associate, just like a middle ground to help with understanding if you're at that level as well.

Stephen Drew: That's it. Exactly. So you've hit the nail on the head. So Thank you for everyone bearing with me while I do that, because, hey, it's work in progress and I do all of this stuff outside of hours after, meanwhile, work at McDonald's company nine to six, I do the evening, I try to have a bit of a real life, I try to do all the architecture social events, I try to do this, but I will wake, I will [00:28:00] Get the janks out of it, but in the short term, you can find that architecture salary and the survey and the results will come through.

Stephen Drew: Again we've got all that. So thank you for everyone for bailing me with that. Let me know your comments. I think, here we go. Curtis says, it's really helpful to be honest. It's really hard to know going into interviews, what is the ballpark for your level? I wish I had that. I agree, mate.

Stephen Drew: And I would love actually Curtis, your help in defining the, all the job titles for architectural visualization. If you could help me with that. I would definitely owe you a virtual beer. Bit late to the party now, but the doctor is in the house. Hey, Dr. Liz, we've just done a hundred London projects before you got here.

Stephen Drew: Only joking, we've had international stuff. Good to see you. One more comment before we swiftly go on is what's also good is that it helps create expectation so people know what's going on in the [00:29:00] profession, how much they should be paid. I agree. And Stella, also the lovely Stella says salary info would be useful and also how to negotiate in the current market.

Stephen Drew: Nora is very happy that the doctor is in the house. Doctor, I've got a bad case of medicine. This this Diet Coke's giving me hiccups. I think next week we're going to be doing an event, aren't we? So it's probably, I'm going to actually get, bring up the events calendar in a while. You talk about the project that you've got on your screen, and I will do all my stuff now.

Architecture Projects Showcase
---

Will Ridgway: Cool, so the project I've got is my screen sharing, I can't see. Yay! It's screen sharing. This project is done by a practice called George King Architects it's this particular project's in the Cotswolds, nice little extension. Oh, look at the

Stephen Drew: dog and the gif, that's so clever!

Will Ridgway: I know, and I just think about in the summer, or maybe, early autumn or even late spring, having this be amazing space to get outside [00:30:00] a little bit more and just have a bit more of that sunshine.

Will Ridgway: So I'll just scroll through slowly. Some of these,

Stephen Drew: Oh, sorry, Will. I turned you off by accident. You're back on again. Okay. It really is one of them days here on the Architecture Social and you've just got to come along with the fun with it. Oh, I know. It's one of them days, we're all in it together, having our sandwich.

Stephen Drew: Carry on, Will. It's back now.

Will Ridgway: Yep you can quite clearly see where the extension is, but I think it's a really good distinction between the existing build and what's being bolted onto the end of this. I think it works really well. But I think some of those views would be amazing.

Will Ridgway: Can you imagine just sitting out, sitting outside, reading a book, maybe, and if it's raining, close, you get to close those glass doors to shelter you from the rain. Just sit there. It's all cozy and nice and warm. I think it'd be really cool. Transcribed

Stephen Drew: Really looks good to me. I really like the project.

Stephen Drew: Let's get one more image. I fancy it. This sofa gets used a lot, doesn't it? But it's quite cool that you can take it in pieces. Yeah, it's quite versatile. I think it's good. Will, if [00:31:00] you want to check out that project, what website should we go to? George King Architects.

Will Ridgway: George King Architects. I think they do a lot of projects in the culture world, but this is their main page.

Will Ridgway: Nice little video as well. Amazing. Amazing.

Stephen Drew: So anyone that's just joined us halfway because I can see lots of people popping here. Really good to have you. Let me know how your week has been. We are going to resume the Badass Buildings next week, but you know what? It's just, we've just been super flat out.

Stephen Drew: So Dr. Liz, I know you said we've got one or two videos. We will do all of that next week. We will have big Badass Building of the Week award next week. We will do the biggest bad, the biggest of the biggest, the baddest, badass building in the world. We will. Smooth. Yeah, smooth. I know.

Stephen Drew: Nothing about this episode today is smooth. Moving swiftly on. So we yeah. Pulling me off the stage with one of them hooks. Yeah, exactly. We have got a really busy events calendar. I've actually set up the events calendar on the Architecture Social that you have the repeat events [00:32:00] now, and you can see all of the cool stuff.

Stephen Drew: So today we have Dungeons Dragons as well. So we got every week we've got here in the events calendar, we got what we got going on. I'm going to be doing a clubhouse today as well. And every week around seven o'clock every week, that's what I try to aim for. I do a clubhouse, whether that's an hour early or an hour later.

Stephen Drew: Wednesday, so you can find me on Clubhouse. And we have today for four hours, we have the Dungeons, Architects and Dragons will, so we're going to be doing all of that. And tomorrow we're going to be me and you gaming, where you and Jack torture me on video games. We definitely need to grow that thing that platform so you can join us on the Architecture Social.

Stephen Drew: If you like playing video games, do join us. You do not need to necessarily join into the games, but it's a place that I want to build up over time because there's so many gamers in architecture. I play games, I know so many people. Come on there, put in your PlayStation tags, put on your [00:33:00] Steam account name, get it all going so that we can all Play video games with each other because that's what it's all about.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, I

Will Ridgway: think as well if you've got any particular games that you want to play as well, let us know and we can organize a big group of us maybe to play.

Stephen Drew: I know. And Curtis, you're right, with Clubhouse, it's only on Apple, which is completely and utterly frustrating because it alienates half of the Architecture Social, but I'm sorry about that.

Stephen Drew: I know we're trying as soon as there's Androids, I'll give you an invite, my friend. There's a, but there's a, we always give away once per week once per week. No, now every month we give away a prize in the Architecture Social, which is a book this week for Archigram. So if you're in the Architecture Social, you can win it by simply, what have you got to do?

Stephen Drew: Inviting someone to join. That's the name of the game, completely free. Win a book and enjoy. And last but not least, next week we have a [00:34:00] special. And it's going to be much more organized than this because hopefully I'll have carpets in my room and everything. But next Tuesday. Me and Will are going to sit down here and we're going to discuss live what makes a great architecture CV.

Stephen Drew: So building on last year, we're going to discuss and review architecture CVs. So don't worry, not breaching the GDPR or anything. We're going to look at some templates which you can just get online and I'm going to try and get some designer templates. Now, I'm not saying you should do that. What I'm doing though is the templates are going to be enough to talk and get conversation going and we can visually talk about stuff.

Stephen Drew: And take it from there, but you can join us here. We will be doing that live on LinkedIn. We're going to be doing that live on YouTube as well. And so back to basics, isn't it? Revamp version 2, 2. 1, whatever we call it, more and more finessed [00:35:00] for that's it, the current world. Love it. Okay. So we've gone through all of that.

Stephen Drew: We've gone through quite a bit of stuff. Should we look at one or two more videos, Will? Yeah,

Will Ridgway: I don't know if I've got any more videos. I've got projects.

Stephen Drew: You show me another project while I go and get a video. Brilliant. Ooh, this looks good, Will.

Will Ridgway: Yeah, unfortunately I don't know the language. So I can't speak.

Will Ridgway: This is still a bit of eye candy. But we can look through. I believe it's a wooden, it's a wooden tower. I think it's wooden. It doesn't look wooden, but I'm pretty sure it is. But wow. Yeah, I got some, you're making

Stephen Drew: some bold claims here. You're saying I think it's good and it looks good. I can't remember.

Stephen Drew: I didn't realize when I hired you, you don't speak Mandarin. Very disappointed as well.

Will Ridgway: I know, but I'm fairly certain it's wooden. Yeah, it's got wooden inside, so I'm assuming it's wooden outside as well. I'm Welsh,

Stephen Drew: I can't even speak Welsh well, so don't worry about it. At least, you fly out there, [00:36:00]

Will Ridgway: you kinda see like the way they designed it, it's almost like blocks.

Will Ridgway: So they got like the cube on top of a cube. On top of a cube. So it's it's going in with that theme of of some buildings that aren't modular but look modular a little bit in the way that they're set up. But it's not obviously modular of. Yeah let me scroll through more. I'm being conscious not to go through too quickly because I've got a fast scroll wheel.

Will Ridgway: So yeah, some more bits, some more of the design there. You've got a football pitch behind it as well, so go there for a kick around, or maybe watch some football from your house. I think that'd be pretty good.

Stephen Drew: Dr Liz is helping us as well. It's Wu who is a residential weather skyscraper in Berlin. Oh my gosh, I love Berlin.

Stephen Drew: I absolutely adore Berlin. It's so cool.

Will Ridgway: Yeah,

Stephen Drew: there you go. Don't worry, it's, we're all getting there as well. Curtis is saying it's the largest timber building Ever. Wow. Super cool. Tallest. [00:37:00] Amazing. Thank you so much guys. This is why we need the audience to join in. This is what it's all about. This is what it's all about.

Stephen Drew: Okay. That was really cool. I've got here a space which was voted quite highly in the Architecture Social, which we didn't cover. And this is Pegasus Trail, which is public space taken to the next level. So this is international. Oop. I just. Full screen, my screen, full screen, the whole screen. Can you see me?

Will Ridgway: Yes, I can see everything. Everything looks good on my end.

Stephen Drew: Okay, so I'm just going to be live on this one second. I have got to decline this call because I'm on a live stream. Huh? The show, we're so busy. My phone has been like five times since we've gone live stream. I put mine on DoNotDisturb,

Will Ridgway: but on DoNotDisturb don't get any calls, that's how it works.

Stephen Drew: Oh, I know, I try not to be rude, because people think you're ignoring them then, isn't it, do you know what I mean? Oh, maybe, yeah, I will call, I will pick it up. Yeah, look at this is what I thought, we'd enjoy it, I would have

Will Ridgway: loved it as a kid, [00:38:00] I wish I was small enough to Play around in a playground.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, it looks auspicious if me and you go and hang out there now, doesn't it? Unfortunately, people get the wrong idea. Look at this. Isn't this the coolest playground ever? I know. I like this one

Will Ridgway: in the

Stephen Drew: dark as well. It's so cool. It's something out of anime or a video game. Absolutely love it. I saw it and I've been meaning to share it.

Stephen Drew: for a while. It's super, super cool. Gotta wear your mask. Gotta be safe.

Will Ridgway: A socially distanced see saw.

Stephen Drew: Absolutely. Oh, the mask's gone out the window there. It's really hard to keep masks on kids though, I really. You've got to understand it from the parent's point of view. Great. All right. So I've enjoyed that one.

Stephen Drew: I got one or two more. There was one other one here we covered. In case anyone's been [00:39:00] missed out on it because the news has always got coronavirus. It's probably worth showing this quickly. And then I think we can wrap up the show soon as well.

Hyperloop and Futuristic Transport
---

Stephen Drew: Is the Virgin's, the world's first Hyperloop passenger experience.

Stephen Drew: Oh, I've gone full screen again. So Richard Branson he's whacking out this under the tower, this Hyperloop, which is just going in at insanity speeds per hour. And you can see here, the Hyperloop one connecting cities. You literally get sent at this insanely fast speed. And then you say futuristic.

Stephen Drew: Yeah. Elon Musk has got his one as well, isn't he? Where he was doing the boring tunnel. So that's cool. Elon Musk, man, is so interesting. I can get in Elon Musk as a satellite where you can pay, I think it's like 80 pound a month and you can just get really high speed internet from all over the UK now.

Stephen Drew: So if you're like in a farm and yeah if you're on like a [00:40:00] farm or something and you've just had this awful connection you know he's got you covered now and you could even get it in London it's not as it's only slightly faster than what I've got currently so I am bothered with me but you know how bad my internet is so I've really got my eye Elon put the speeds up for me and then I'll buy it look at this though so you get sent on this loop it's so funny though right because they did a video Where they put people in it and they, and it's so probably some actors and real people, but obviously paid to do it or whatever.

Stephen Drew: And they were in it like this and they were enjoying themselves. But when it stopped, you could see all the actors being like, Ooh, little bit of a bump there. Meanwhile, their hair was shaking and everything. And I was thinking like, it's still such an amazing ride and you're going so far for the time.

Stephen Drew: But you're going so fast. You can't help it. It's going to be a little bit. You're gonna, you're gonna feel the speed dropping at the end, do you know what I mean?

Will Ridgway: Yeah, beginning and the end, that's where you'll feel it the most, but I

Stephen Drew: quite like that though, I [00:41:00] love roller

Will Ridgway: coasters. That

Stephen Drew: is so fun, look

Will Ridgway: how calm everyone looks.

Stephen Drew: Look at that with the coffee there, they can't Maybe it is pretty

Will Ridgway: smooth, maybe it is pretty smooth, I

Stephen Drew: don't know. I think it's smooth, it's more like the vertigo feeling, when, oh not vertigo, what's the one where, you know, when they spin you around like astronauts and you feel the g forces.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, perhaps, yeah. Super cool. All right. So check that out. Virgin Hyperloop.

Wrapping Up and Final Thoughts
---

Stephen Drew: Okay, everyone. I am going to call it a day here. Let me know what you think, but Oh, probably before we go, we got so many interesting comments. Curtis says we got so many rubbish parks. I agree. We've got to, we've got to go to Asia to enjoy a good kids park these days, you know what I'm saying?

Stephen Drew: And. Good morning from Toronto, Canada. First time viewer here. Welcome. If you check the recap, we actually reviewed a cabin. In the Canadian forest, which is 400 Canadian [00:42:00] dollars. And it was super, super cheap. So definitely check it out. It's management. I'm sure you'll like it. Curt Dr. Liz says, Curtis, we gave it the design award when I worked for RIBA.

Stephen Drew: And that, I think he's sure what Dr. Liz is talking about is Patel Taylor's Thames Barrier Park. We will bring that up next week. Thank you everyone. This has been a great week. Me, Stephen Drew. Very, Scatterly doing this. I will have my office back next week and we'll go back to normal. I will get the soundboards there until next time.

Stephen Drew: You can join us on the architectural social. com post links, post videos, cool stuff, and we will talk about it together next Wednesday at one o'clock. And if you want to talk about CVs with me and Will, you can join us live here. On YouTube and the Architecture Social to review the CVs. But before we go and you thought you got away with it.

Stephen Drew: You thought you got [00:43:00] away with it, but we need the weekly words of wisdom.

Will Ridgway: Wow. No special music this time around either. So I get pure silence, pure attention to me.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, you get pure silence. Go for it.

Will Ridgway: So we've got exciting news. 21st of June is when restrictions are all lifted, apparently.

Will Ridgway: That's the aim. Nearly there. We've got to just keep going for the next few months and Yeah, we're nearly there. Light at the end of the tunnel. It's finally good to see that.

Stephen Drew: Okay, that's amazing. I'm going to put the camera on you. No, it's

Will Ridgway: on you at the moment. Oh, yeah. Yeah. My weekly words of wisdom is, just keep going, really.

Will Ridgway: We're nearly there. Keep up the motivation, get out enjoy things as restrictions get lifted, sensibly and safe as well. And yeah, we're I think hopefully we'll go back to normal sometime very soon.

Stephen Drew: Amazing. Thank you everyone for being part of this show. I'm not gonna have a Diet Coke next week because I've been gassy throughout and we will see you next time.

Stephen Drew: Take care. Thank you. [00:44:00] Bye.
