===

Stephen Drew: [00:00:00] We are live, Will. Don't forget to unmute your microphone.

Will Ridgway: Yes. I forgot. Hello, everyone.

Stephen Drew: 18 seconds to the magic. Yes. We've actually got some stuff today. We've got a lot of stuff. It's going to be a busy, busy show. So everyone, in five seconds, we're going to kick off three, two, one. Oh, hello, hello, everyone.

How are you? Hello. Hello. Another week, another week, one week closer to the end of lockdown. One week closer with hopefully less coronavirus stuff. Hope everyone's well. We have got a lot of architecture news. This week, [00:01:00] there's, it's been so busy, do you know what? We've been so busy, me and Will, we were, we were working on the phones up until like five minutes before the live stream.

Outrageous. Outrageous. We have to do some work, but we're loving it. We're loving being busy. It feels like the architecture industry is getting more busy. And so with that, we've got some more news. We're going to go through it. So drop a comment. Remember though, in the Architecture Social show, you can comment, you can say things live, and we can bring them to you.

That up on the big screen and we will interact with the audience so do say hello. Well, I should probably let you introduce us a minute after I talked. Do you want to introduce the show?

Will Ridgway: Yeah, hello everyone, um, to the Architectural Social Show, as you are all aware, my name is Bill Ridgeway. Oh, I

Stephen Drew: spilled my water!

Will Ridgway: And I'm with Stephen Drew, who can't drink a glass of water very well.

Stephen Drew: I got nervous on the stream, it's all down my, it's all down my, um, sleeve now, this isn't very comfortable. This is how you do it, [00:02:00] there you go. Oh, no, you've got to do it a bit indignant, look at the bottom, there you go, fancy. I don't have a glass, why is it like this?

Big glass.

Will Ridgway: Mine's a

Stephen Drew: beer glass. You have a beer glass. There you go. With, with, with, with water. That is healthy. So let's move on. Well, so, oh my gosh, we've got some cool stuff this week. So let's just jump straight into it. So I'm going to bring up the screen. Well, oh, I forgot how to do that now. Here we go.

Yay. So we're, this is the On the Arctic Social Community and all the stuff that we're going to show throughout this show. is found within the community. We've got a lot of events coming up. I'm just going to quickly show the kind of cool things we can do this week. So on here, you've got now the Architecture Social show.

So we're every Wednesday we're here. I now say we're every Wednesday we're here. So soon I've got to remove the ish on the end because we're, we're going pretty punctual, aren't we? Tonight I'm going to be on the Clubhouse talking about Finding a job in the [00:03:00] architecture market right now and using opportunities.

And then tomorrow we've got the gaming night, haven't we Will? So if anyone wants to see how bad I am at video games and what probably watch Will and Jack torment me, you can find us there. We have also got this week, the MADCON launch event, and that's the big event. Well, that's the big event. So for three days, Yep, that's the big one, that is 100 percent the big one, so let me show you here now, you can go to, see, it's on there, set everything up, so we've got all the events in the Architecture Social, do show it, but that's probably going to start off with the first video, and then while we do that, we can talk about a few things, so in the events section, hopefully, oh no, I know where I've done it, There we go.

Give me one second. So studying architecture. Look at this. So premiering on the events is a day in the life of architectural students. Can you hear that? Or I turn [00:04:00] it off?

Will Ridgway: I can't

Stephen Drew: hear that. Okay, good. So do you remember? Well, look at this. It's like a flashback back to the days of being in the dorm. They're all in the dorm talking about architecture life.

So they're called architects, the group. I kid you not. So that's architects. Architect, Architect Architects are projects by people. That's the name of it. And you've got Alvin Thomas Roundtree. So go see them. Book, be in the event, talking about architecture, student life tips, trips and tips. Trips. Tips and trips.

Tips and tricks. Tips and, oh, gotta gimme one second. I, you know. Before the door opens and you eject me, do you know what I mean? But it looks really, really cool. That premieres live. I think it's like an hour long video or something that they've done. That is part of it as well. That's one of the events on there.

So, so, so many events. That's probably going to be the best event that you can attend in your underwear. And we [00:05:00] have a Zoom Hangout all day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, so you can drop in on the Architecture Social Zoom. and say hello and let me know what your thoughts are. Are people here going to the MADCON?

You can find all the details for the MADCON in the Architecture Social or you can type in Google MADCON and you can find the stuff as well. There was another event that I quite liked in in the community, Will, and this was a video and this seemed really cool. So check this out. Okay it's 15 A Bartlett exhibition.

Well, I've got to turn this, I've got to turn the sound off for me. It's killing me at the moment. There we go. So this is amazing. So this is an online Bartlett exhibition. It's a digital exhibition you can go to and you can go in interactive world and you can go and see all this stuff in real time space.

So that's in the studio. But look at this as part of it's all online. So Will, while we're here, I want you to get your screen up so you can read out all this. But check this out, you [00:06:00] can digitally go and see this exhibition and you can do this stuff as well. How cool, look at that. So I know you're, you're busy, you're busy looking at the description.

Will Ridgway: Yeah, I know. Go get the description. I'm trying, I'm trying, my computer is being a pain. Wow,

Stephen Drew: look at this, it's so cool. Look at this lady, she's on a desk in the ocean. Ah, you missed it with the description. I can't

Will Ridgway: do it, I can't find it.

Stephen Drew: It's not your fault, I'm going around like a rogue, so you've got to follow me, Will.

You've got to follow me. So, let me read that out. So, the Bartlett's Annual Winter Exhibition 15 returns on 19th of February, online for the first ever time, after 15 months of study, and you get to see all the super, super cool stuff that the Bartlett have done. So, do check that out. The doctor is in the house.

I'm getting down with the youth. Dr. Liz, I think your Snoop Dogg or something here all of a sudden, huh? I'm loving [00:07:00] it. I need some, we need some pimp music for when Dr. Liz enters. So, oh, I've got that actually. We can be like, here we go. So well, Dr. Liz is in the house with a Snoop. Do you know what I mean?

Here you go, Dr. Liz, this is for you. So, what else have we got? What other events? Let's go through them. Will,

Will Ridgway: I'm

Stephen Drew: going to go to the Architecture Project section. Thank you. That's where you get the description. So, the first one I want to talk about And the last one is this place because it looks absolutely insane.

So the future Red Sea. So I believe this is by Fossils and Partners. This is a video I found online from the architecture channel I frequently use, which is Cities of the Future. So let's click on it. So how are we going to look at this? And we've got three, it's a nice three minutes we're going to look at it.

Now this looks to me a bit like Avatar or something. [00:08:00] It's like a completely different world. So this is the Red Sea Development Company. Have you got the description there at all?

Will Ridgway: I do. I can rattle for it now. I'm prepared this time. So, um, basically it's, um, the Red Sea Project, which is a luxury Tourism destination, uh, in Saudi Arabia.

Um, it's revealed plans for its main hub island at the destination Shura I probably butchered that name really badly. I apologize. Uh, but it's known as the Coral Bloom. I'm looking at it.

Stephen Drew: Look at it. It's like finding Nemo. Look at this. As soon as you got the coral and all the buildings are designed a bit like the coral as well.

So you've got all these shell designs. Um, look at, look at this image, right? I'm loving this because it's like avatar. Like people, uh, you know what? Like you can't see out my window, but I've got gray lucian. Do you know what I mean? And this place is paradise. You

Will Ridgway: see so many different colors that you don't normally see in real life.

Stephen Drew: Yeah. It's [00:09:00] like, this is the good life. You know, no one's worried about coronavirus. They're all down on the coral. Look at that turtle knocking around. You're having a little, you know, You're having um, a mojito on the beach? Yeah,

Will Ridgway: ah, don't, don't, don't make me start being jealous.

Stephen Drew: I'm not, well don't worry I'm not going or anything so we can be jealous together.

I've never, I've never, I've, I've never seen the Red Seam. So that's something I'd like to do. Neither

Will Ridgway: have I. And, um, obviously Foster Partners, they've taken consideration of the whole biodiversity of the whole area. So, uh, the aim is to sort of seamlessly fit the buildings into the landscape, uh, and then obviously take into consideration the wildlife and the coral reefs as well, which is pretty cool, which is why you get so many cool, you know, well, that's why the area is so amazing to be in, I guess, which, um, I wish I could go over there.

Golf course as well. Oh, there you go.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, I can see that there. I read that. I think it's cool. I like the shell designs. I do think [00:10:00] it's a bit of, yeah, you've got wacky colors and stuff, but you're on holiday. It's going to be great. Look at that. It's kind of a bit mad, isn't it? Like all these little shops and little shells and all this stuff.

I think the

Will Ridgway: wacky colours really work though, because it's in part, like there's a coral reef there, so it makes it look, it fits in well.

Stephen Drew: You know what though, I mean, I know it's real, but it doesn't feel real. I'm sorry, I know it's not built yet and they're going to build it, but these, these mega projects, when they build these islands out of nowhere, you know, like the Palm Islands and stuff in Dubai, it's just, I need to see it to believe it.

And I will go and I will believe it. But I think I've been too Lewisham'd. You know what I mean? I mean, I'm used to just big towers being locked up, but the amount of towers You're

Will Ridgway: just used to different shades of grey. That's the colours. Totally different shades of grey.

Stephen Drew: Exactly. If I get a beige, I'm lucky.

Do you know what I'm saying? It's a bit cruel. Lewisham's getting better. But, uh, yeah, check out that project. So that is linked. You can find all of this. If you're not [00:11:00] a member, let me get the banner up now. Oop. Excuse me. You should join our community on TheArchitectureSocial. com forward slash join. We are now at 3, 600 members.

Get involved. Put a comment. I would love to hear people's thoughts on that. Do you think it's good? Do not. Drop a little comment there. And you can find all of these listed in the architectural project section. So Will, because we are working, we work together. And we've, we, and I know a bit more about your personality since we, you know, we've had a few beers and we play gaming together and I know you're a football fan.

So I've got Architecture and Football, and this is for you because you know I'm not a football fan. But this is, don't worry, it's not much of a job description, sorry, job description, there's not much of a project description. This is the new Santiago. Burn that boo! The stadium. Yeah! You did it right. Oh, brilliant.

So, here we go. So, here's for you. Now, I want you to [00:12:00] review on your, in terms of stadiums, if you think it's cool or not. While you do that, I'm going to quickly check out the comments. Yeah. Dr. Liz is saying that the curving isles and the Red Sea development are like the isles within the O2. So, I have the O2s down the road from me, actually.

I used to walk there. Um, I still, I actually did walk there the other day, just for a nice little walk during coronavirus. Yeah, so here we go. This is very, um, I mean, it's quite slick. It's lots of lines. Who's looking at that LED up in the sky? Is it someone in an helicopter?

Will Ridgway: Yeah, it's very enclosed. I'd love to see what it looks like inside.

The outside looks really cool and looks really modern as well. Yeah. I do like, I do like the patterns of it and it doesn't, but the thing is it doesn't look like a stadium. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, it almost looks like a, a, a, um, it almost looks like a modern footstool. [00:13:00] No, it doesn't. With the little legs at the base.

Stephen Drew: A modern footstool. Do you got a footstool? I haven't got a footstool right now. Did McDonald's company send you a footstool?

Will Ridgway: No. It's going to mess

Stephen Drew: your HR then and get a footstool, do you know what I mean?

Will Ridgway: It'd be really nice. It does look really cool. Oh, look at that, the roof opens. That's what I like actually, having the roof open and closing.

Stephen Drew: Stadium design is a big, big thing these days. H. R. K. at the forefront, absolutely. You've got Populous as well, um. Oh, that's true. Oh, now, now you're, now you're loving it. Now you can see it. Prince Valley Stadium is the first of a new designed stadium. There you go. Well, stop imagining about football. There you go.

We've lost Will now, haven't we? Hey, look at this, Will. That looks kind of cool.

Will Ridgway: Oh, look at those views. That'd be amazing. Yeah, I like it. I like the inside more than the outside. The outside is still really cool, but I love like the interior aspects of stadiums more than the outside.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, and this looks a [00:14:00] really high end stadium, doesn't it?

Will Ridgway: There you go, shopping.

Stephen Drew: That's it. So who's the stadium designed by, Will?

Will Ridgway: Uh, I don't know. Let's find out. Let's find out. You quickly go.

Stephen Drew: While I enjoy it, you find out the architects for it. Here we are, Real Madrid. See, I'm not into football, but I'm not against it. I'm just neutral. It never grabbed me. But, of course, the architecture of Steliums is really interesting.

Oh, here we go. Well, this is the interesting video now. I've got, um, it's peeling back, you know, the 3D model so you can see, like, all the layers. Yeah. Yeah, that's cool. There we go. Oh, look at this. Well, Katie is, she's on Twitch. Hey, we got so one person watching us on Twitch. Normally, we're, we're the LinkedIn guy, gang, I should say, but, um, Katie, lovely to have you here.

Uh, [00:15:00] let me know your thoughts as well. Okay. New stadiums take notice of these disasters, a very good illustration. of the recommendations from the reports like Bradford Hillsborough, etc. Here we go, cool.

Will Ridgway: I have the architect name. Go on. It's a, uh, German studio. They designed it called GMP Architecten.

Stephen Drew: Okay, cool.

There you go. There they are. The mystery is solved. Let me know what you think about these DEMs. While you're here, tell me how was everyone's week? How is everyone feeling? I would love to know. Week's been quite busy for me, Will. And it's been quite busy for you as well, because I know that, because we work together.

So, you know. I mean, we've been quite busy. It seems like things are coming back, which is great. While we're loading up there, I'm going to do one more project, um, that in the project section, and then we can have a little look around the [00:16:00] rest of the website as well. So I'm going to this one. This is a Dezeen video.

But I thought it was quite cool The scene are all over the news at the moment. Well for the wrong reasons Let's go for it. So tune here, tune there, Ishigami, look at this right well, so you can just enjoy this Don't need the job description. Beautiful, beautiful pronunciation. Oh no, sorry. I'm, I'm, I'm a bit tired today and I'm well shorted, so you know, I've got the odd stack up against me.

So this is a beautiful, I can't do, I'm, I can do. You know what I mean? My pronunciation. So, listen, um, look Will. It's this beautiful walk in space. It's, people can go in there. It's actually built, this is not a concept video. This is actually there so people can go and enjoy the space underneath. But what I quite like is have a [00:17:00] look at these people.

Just chilling underneath in this world. But it almost looks like a render, but it's real.

Will Ridgway: Yeah.

Stephen Drew: Yeah.

Will Ridgway: Is that actually Norenda?

Stephen Drew: I think it's real. Wow. There you go, we got the architects down there. This is the plaza. Dr Liz says academic life is heating up too. So it's all getting quite busy. Yeah, look, it's real.

So this is like, this is, that was a funeral. I think it's a funeral. Or a ceremony. Either way, you can have a funeral or a ceremony. Probably not a funeral, actually, because where's the body going to go? Right, okay, moving swiftly on.

Moving swiftly on.

Will Ridgway: Not the smoothest of transitions away, but we'll go with it.

Stephen Drew: Oh, you've got to have a bit of fun in life. You've got to have a smile. These are difficult times, so, Dr. Liz has actually [00:18:00] posted a lot of really good news that we can look throughout the area. I wanted to do, oh yeah, I wanted to sneak this in because it's our deed in Russia and we haven't covered Russia.

So, Dr. Liz, I am, I am, we've covered Russia now as well. So we're super not London centric. Okay, so, well, go to the industry section and read out the custom

Will Ridgway: words. You just

Stephen Drew: know, you just know what I'm like now. You're just going to follow me around. Yeah, I'll

Will Ridgway: probably find out I'm going to talk about the wrong video.

Stephen Drew: Oh, look what Dr. Alessa said. Big, big game coming up, Will. Wales vs. England in the Six Nations on Saturday.

Will Ridgway: Oh yeah, I'm a little bit less of a rugby fan, but, um,

Stephen Drew: yeah. Oh, I like the Six Nations. It's the one I do.

Will Ridgway: Yeah, because you're Welsh.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, and Wales vs, it's so funny, because Wales vs England, everyone gets along, everyone has a great time.

When it comes to the rugby, I'm like, I want to shove it in England's face, you know what I mean? Like, [00:19:00] Wales, come on Wales! And all my, all my English mates, I get texts from it doing the two finger, like, and I'm like, mate, that's not nice. Don't be, don't be mean.

Will Ridgway: Get over it. Yeah, that'll be an interesting one.

Six Nations is always fun. I'm just not as invested in rugby. I used to play rugby, but I don't watch it much.

Stephen Drew: Joanna loves the floating ceiling. She loved it. Fantastic. It's a beautiful space to hang out. Probably not good for a funeral parlor, so forgive me for that. That was Everyone was just wearing black suits!

Everyone was wearing black suits, so I kind of just thought I don't know.

Will Ridgway: We don't know. But, um, yeah. I mean, this particular project, we're on the Zaha Hadid still.

Stephen Drew: Yeah.

Will Ridgway: Do you want me to read out? Yeah, please go for it. So, it's, um, so they're working with, um, TPO Pride Architects, who are a Russia based architectural practice, and, um, Basically, um, we, well, we developed a people centric design for a smart, interconnected city that brings [00:20:00] people together, not only through innovative technology, but also through organizing, organizing the public realm, um, which is what the project director Zaha Hadid said.

So basically, um, Basically, um, could you help me? It's a city, isn't it? I'm not seeing any videos, so I can't, I don't know what I'm talking about.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, let's get rid of this guy with it. Here we go. It's a smart city by Zaha Hadid. Okay, so smart city is going to be like, uh, full of innovative technologies.

It's going to be beautiful homes. It's going to be this whole new environment. I love how it keeps cutting from these amazing images. To a guy in a bistro. Oh, but there we go. It's so, it's like he met his wife. It's like a, it's like, um, it's like a little drama here. East extenders, isn't it? Yeah. It's like east extend east extenders and what's going on?

Well, they weren't, they, you know, ? Yeah. They met in the coffee shop. Now they're gonna go to Zade. Smart City. He's done [00:21:00] really well for a coffee shop to afford a de, um, apartment, isn't he? I couldn't, I think. Things are, the chandelier is like 30, 000, so it's like, how are you going to get that house? She does look glamorous, look at this lady.

See, when you're in a smart city, you have to wear white suits, Will, do you know? That's the rule.

Will Ridgway: That's

Stephen Drew: the rule. That's the rule. That's

Will Ridgway: the future of

Stephen Drew: clothing. That is the future of clothing, all white. I'd be a nightmare because I'm the clumsiest person ever. Remember me in the old days, Will? I'd always stay in my shirts.

Yeah, you look like those coral

Will Ridgway: reefs that we were looking at earlier.

Stephen Drew: I know I needed like, I need like a little badge for everything. Remember all the time to put over the stains, but check out the smart city by Zahedi. That is all in the Architecture Social. We are the Architecture Social show, and you can join our community at thearchitecturesocial.

com. I love people who participate and right now. There has been more and more people talking and chatting, which I love because I'm a chatterbox, so come join me, come join me, post [00:22:00] some stuff. I tell you what, if you post a cool project, I will post it up. And the other thing that we've been doing, I've been a little bit slow this week because, um, Oh, we've been really busy.

We've been really busy and sometimes I've been working a little bit into the evening on recruitment as well as you have where we've been working hard, which means that I've not been able to do as much this week as I'd love to do on the social. But let me show you a few things that we have done. Next week we will pick up the badass building award.

I haven't got any projects in there for the moment right now, but what we can do is we can do an impromptu. Scale of the Beast. So what do you think is better? Going to the beautiful coral reef on the Red Sea? That would be the badass mega project of the week. Or, um, going to Russian smart city? So I'm, I'm kind of already know what I want to do because I really fancy a holiday.

So I'm going to go to So the Coral Bloom, that is my favourite project this [00:23:00] week. Drop in the comments which is the favourite one we've done so far. Um, well, what is your, while I click around here, what would be your preference? Would you go, would you be interested in the Smart City? Oh, would you like to go for on the holiday to the Coral Reef?

Will Ridgway: Well, I keep, I hate having to keep picking the same one as you do. But unfortunately, my preference is also the Coral Reef because it'll be a nice holiday. That's what I'm thinking of at the moment. And it's the, um, it's something that I can't have for the time being. So

Stephen Drew: that's what I hope for. I love it.

By the way, did we cover this one last week, Willem, with the ultimate mobility vehicle? I can't remember. No, we haven't. Okay. Let me bring this up and then we're going to do a little relaxing drone footage of Malibu. Let's see. Is

Will Ridgway: this um, spot the dog's cousin?

Stephen Drew: Potentially. Spot the dog car world. So, um, because obviously we've got electric vehicles, you know, it's going to be a big thing by [00:24:00] 2030, right?

You can't have petrol cars anymore, which to me blows my mind. I think it's great, but I'm so conditioned to think petrol cars are going to be around forever. Destroying the world. It's can't believe that it's actually a thing, you know. So what we have here is a concept for a car which basically goes onto the street.

So this, this like spot the dog drops you off in the house and picks you up. So it's spots, um, uber casm, basically. Not much room for, um, a seat. I'm a bit worried right now. Yeah, yeah. I'd probably get, like, my elbow on there. And look at it wobbling back and forth. This is a bit bumpy ride, isn't it? Yeah, I

Will Ridgway: know.

And a slow one.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, but what I think it is, is that it's transport wheel across. Terrains which are normally undriveable. So, so like, you know, um, imagine over a hill or a bumpy area or it's called the [00:25:00] cradle. So let's have a little look at it now. And so here's some really funky shots. It looks like something out of Command and Conquer.

Or, um, Halo, but here we go. Let's go zoom ahead slightly to, there we go on the hills. And now it's, now it's starting to make a bit more sense. Isn't it? Now it looks like a car as well. That is a cool off road car.

Will Ridgway: That is cool. Hey, that can be the car that you use to get to and from all those remote, um, Remote housing projects that we keep showing every week, where they have like no pathway up.

You keep getting one of these, drive up to the house.

Stephen Drew: You don't need the roads, you could just go over the curves and ideally not pedestrians, but you can bring it up, can't you? So you could, you could shoot the car up so that everyone's below you is like, what? No, don't do that. But here you go, it's a really good idea.

Will Ridgway: Yeah, that'd be amazing to use. When helicopters

Stephen Drew: can't get there. Oh, we've got a bunch of comments come in, so while we [00:26:00] have a little look at that, let's do some stuff. We've got the votes, well, for the Coral Bloom. Coral Reef, no doubt, Noor. Oh, Noor, I posted your book yesterday, so I forgot to tell you. So you should get it in the next day or two.

It was second class recorded. I would do first class, but, you know, it's You'll get the recorded though, so I've got the receipt if you get any problems. So let me know if you get your book. Okay. Amazing. Wow. Cities of the future. You really are saving the architectural social podcast today when I've been so busy.

So let's have a little relax for a second. And you know, I always do drone footage of New York. We're going to go somewhere different. We're going to go to Malibu. Oh, brilliant. I've never been to Malibu. So I still won't have gone after this, but it'd be different, wouldn't it? Something nice to look at. Oh yeah, other news, my soundboard, I've got sounds now, but I need to, remember my soundboard crashed, so I fixed [00:27:00] it, and so I've got all these noises, and uh, but I need to add more buttons, so when I add more, next week we'll have more sounds, you know?

Amazing. Um, what else have I got? That's it really. That's it, you've been

Will Ridgway: right by that coastline. That's, uh, really close to the water.

Stephen Drew: Yeah, I watched there's a show on Netflix which does interior design renovations and some lady had a Malibu house and the prices of it are astronomical. But basically it's kind of, uh, you've got the beautiful beach there and then it's also, it's quite, you get a lot of like A list celebrities and people going there.

So it's like a really trendy spot because you've got the celebs and the surfers. So it's, it's going to be like Instagrammy world. Do you know what I mean? So here we go. Here we go. When are we having drone footage of Cardiff? Yeah, I'll have a quick Will, do me a favor, have a quick Google. Because you can put there, um, you [00:28:00] can send me a private chat with the link and then we can try to get drone footage of Cardiff for Dr.

Liz. That would be really cool. And no, I'm glad you're excited. And thank you for your patience. Love having you. On the Architecture Social, you are, um, an awesome member to the community. So, Ola from Portugal. Ola! Wow, we're really going on Twitch today. We're getting Twitch people zoned in. I'm loving it!

And probably important to mention for our Twitch fans, we're now having gaming night at eight o'clock on a Thursday. You can just zone out. Will, Will pops in as well, you'll find me and Jack on there, and you can do it, gaming night on the Architecture Social. I just thought a lot of us have computers, a lot of us do stuff, so we may as well, isn't it, well, we may as well enjoy it.

We may as well. We may as well game together. So let me have a little look at this before we go. Stock aerial footage of [00:29:00] Cardiff Bay, unlisted. It was the first thing that

Will Ridgway: popped up. It was the first thing that popped up, so I put it in. I've not looked at it yet.

Stephen Drew: I'm going to, it's not too bad so far. I'm going to just quickly trouble check.

You know what I mean? I get in trouble for posting that. Um. Ariel, Jerome, Cardiff. What else is everyone up to this week? Let me know in the comments, be brave, be bold and do, um, do tell me what you're up to. Oh, I've got another one, which looks quite good. No, yours is better. Okay, Dr. Liz, we're going to do this for you.

We're, we're going to, so everyone, No more Malibu, put away your sunglasses, put it all away, and let's go to grey Wales.

I do love Wales, but they actually, this drone footage is, is [00:30:00] great. Okay, so. Oh, it's got a bit of sun. Aerial Photography Wales. Thank you very much. We're going to shout out to them for showing case in their stock footage. Do you know what? So Cardiff Bay, that's where I want to live if I go back to Wales.

This is really nice, Cardiff Bay, in the bay, you're enjoying it. But well, this is for drone footage. We're just getting one building. It's like the drone guy is just staying, he's just staying still. Oh, there we go. No, he's gone back to the building.

Will Ridgway: Well, maybe that's probably where he's operating it from.

He can't go too far, otherwise the drone will go, or drop into the water.

Stephen Drew: There's some really nice restaurants around on the, on the bay. I like it. Has anyone been to the bay here? Let me know. No. I've got, I've got, um, I've got a few comments coming in. You'll be going over your, my house in a minute, in a bit.

Only five minutes from there. Oh my gosh, Dr. Liz, lucky you, living [00:31:00] by the coast, living it up in Wales. I need to go back to Wales. Dr. Liz, it's a very good question. The question was, I wonder what The flood insurance is for those houses on the coast in Malibu. Good question. I think they're too busy having champagne on the decks to care, to be honest.

Do you know what I mean? They're living it up. Here we go. We've got some more people on Twitch. They love these types of shows. I didn't even know there was an audience for Architecture on Twitch, but here we are. There we go. We're making the audience. We're making the audience. I think we've got one of the best of games.

You can see wonderful architecture is Final Fantasy XV. Very interesting. Anonymous user. Good suggestion. So there we go. We've got a bit of drone footage of Cardiff Bay. Dr. Liz, there you go. We just got to do Edinburgh next. Well, I want Edinburgh and I want Dublin so that we've taken, we've done all the drawing footages.

Next week, next stop [00:32:00] Edinburgh. Yeah, that's true. But now, A, I live here and B, I don't want to be accused of London centric, so I will do London, but I'll do it at the end. So I, I seem quite, you know, fair. What else? Oh, there was a shout out that I wanted to do of a really cool event calendar that was put up by Lily Hojka.

And she is, uh, she basically is at public practice. So I'm going to bring this up now. So bear with me while I disable like my own personal calendar, so I can show you. This calendar, it's nothing that bad, but it says like mum's birthday, Pete's birthday, all this stuff. Do you know what I mean? There you go.

Pete's birthday. There you go. Sorry, Pete. I've rumbled away your birthday is, but you can go and check out this because she shared it with me and I was really impressed with the amount of stuff in here, Will. We're in the calendar. Yay. But basically look at this, right? Oh, okay. Block for now. Block. Right.

Okay. Okay. So, so [00:33:00] they have set up this. Google Calendar, you can find it in the Architecture Social, under Events, and you can, look how detailed it is. So this is the events of today. You've got, is it today? That's Monday. Bear with me. Doing this live, guys. Give me a break. Here we go, yay! Where are we behind?

That's alright, but you get the format. But look how many, all these events that are on there, all the links, where to go. If you really want an awesome calendar, check out this calendar. It is within the Architectural Social. It's a little bit hidden away, but it's in the event space. I posted it because Lily shared it to me.

Check it out. See, you can see Lily. Drop her a message on the Architectural Social and she can tell you all about public practice as well. I've known Lily for many years. I used to work with her at David Chipperfield when she was practice manager there. Really, really great advocate for the industry. Do check out [00:34:00] the events calendar there.

Thank you very much, Lily. I've got this gentleman staring at me, Will, while I'm talking, so Don't worry, there's a building. There is a building there. Yeah? Okay, should we click it quickly? Let's have a little look. Yeah. Ooh, basically, this is the Arctic Salmon Center.

Will Ridgway: Yeah, there's nothing glamorous about it, but it was really cool because they just sort of stuck a building on the edge of the cliff.

Oh, I can't find the

Stephen Drew: screen! I can't find it, it says Let's find out more, why?

Will Ridgway: Ah, that's frustrating. But yeah, there's not really much other than that sort of screen, that's the thing of it. I think it basically just goes back and forth all the time from there. It was kind of cool, it was just stuck on the, um, stuck on the corner of the cliff edge in the middle of nowhere.

Uh,

Stephen Drew: yeah.

Will Ridgway: There you go.

Stephen Drew: Fair enough. What I'm going to do now, because my phone's rumbling everywhere. Here we go. Dr. Liz, do not message me during the show because you can see everything's popping up. I am going to do an anonymous dummy account so people [00:35:00] can't message me during the show. It's not, I don't mind, but I don't want your personal conversations on here.

And I really do not want to offend the, um, the, what's it called? The GDPR people, you know, I'm compliant. I'm really, I'm really compliant. Me and Will spend all day removing everyone's contact details from CVs once they've got their permission and like some, Uh, I mean, most recruiters are generally good.

You've got one or two people, uh, recruiters, sadly, spreading CVs with contact information, but we don't do that. So Dr. Liz, love you to bits. We'll look at your message after the live stream, because you realize it does come up on the big screen. You are there. You are that message. So, okay, moving on. Um, what else have I got going on here?

So Dr. Liz has posted a loads of really cool insight as well. I want to showcase one or two of Dr. Liz's, which, cause I think it's really interesting talking about SOM, the score type, [00:36:00] super tall skyscraper on the site. of Trump's Grand Hyatt, New York. That would be interesting. Check out as well one or two people in the community which have said stuff.

So Chris Andrews here posted about ArcGIS, that's there as well. So you all this stuff on the community if you want to see super super cool stuff then you can join the Architecture Social community. Do it now. It's completely free. You just got to say that you're in industry and you can check it out. So on that note, while we're here, I've got one or two jobs.

Well, I'm going to talk about, bring one up on the screen and then, um, uh, I haven't put it there. It's on the main website. Bear with me. And we can talk about one or two jobs here. I have an announcement for any architectural practices out there as well. You can now So if you're an architectural practice, you can now post your ad on the Architecture Social.

You can post your company on the Architecture Social's directory. You can post a job [00:37:00] on there. You can post a project for the grand total price of, for free, up to three a week for free. Anything after that. There's a cost involved. Um, a free up per month for free. Anything after that, drop me a message or talk about it, but it will go to the cost of the Architecture Social, because unfortunately it does run, but do that as well.

And it was great because this week I met a really great architectural practice. We're doing recruitment with them through McDonald and Company, and they're going to post all the awesome projects on the Architecture Social community for free. So I absolutely love it. I love it. So check it out, check this all out and you can upload your job there for free.

So right now you've got jobs by yours truly. Um, sorry, Will, I haven't put your architectural technician technologist job on there, but we will jump to the McDonald and Company page after it. I'm going to quickly talk about this role that [00:38:00] I've got in, which is a senior architect associate at a forward thinking and dynamic London practice.

So based in London. They've got this great architectural practice. They're at the forefront of industry technology. They're doing all this cool stuff, crazy stuff, and they've got a really strong team. Right now, though, they've got a lot of architects. They've got a lot of part twos, and while the directors themselves have experience, they're really looking for an associate to kind of jump in the mix.

So you can apply for the role here. It's salary is probably going to be around 50 to 55, 000, maybe a bit lower, maybe a bit higher, all depends on who you are and if you're interested. So if you know anyone that is interested in, who's either a new associate or wants to be an associate, but someone that's really led projects and can kind of help and coordinate a team.

This role is for you, based in central London, would be a remote start, so we have that role as well. Will, do you want to talk about one of your roles [00:39:00] this week before we move swiftly on? Because we're going to do one or two videos, then probably end the show. So you can go to McDonald Company, you can, you can find Will by putting in Will Ridgeway.

Okay.

Will Ridgway: Will, should we talk about Let's do Senior Architect, the top right one. Okay. Let's talk about your role. Yeah. So senior architect for, um, some large residential schemes. So basically between 45, uh, 50K, maybe a little bit above that, depending on your experience. Once someone that's, um, can basically independently work on independently work on themselves on a project, for example, or within a team, someone capable of just basically Get on with the role.

Revit base, residential schemes, uh, generally, uh, delivery work as well.

Stephen Drew: Amazing. Amazing. Amazing.

Well, you did a fantastic job there. I'm sure loads and loads of people would be interested.[00:40:00]

Will Ridgway: I was trying to do a bow, but you can't see my, you can't see me bending over. I know it's not,

Stephen Drew: it's an awkward position. Don't worry. So, all right. So I think on that note, that's pretty much where we're at, really. I'm going to go one or two, um, comments in the audience as well, and we can just chill out for the next five minutes and leave everyone, go back to work.

But what else have we got here? So we did Manhattan last week. So this, while we're here, you can see that I'm going through the topic section. And the architects are social and you people can post their projects. Yeah, they can post their architectural companies. It's all completely for free. And as well as that, there's a lot of resources probably with me showing this, cause this is for free.

Um, you can do, do, do, do gone to the wrong section, learning section. Okay. Learning section. So this is the old careers page that I had from last year, which is all the stuff that me and you were doing. Well, You know, which is all of our, um, what makes a good architectural [00:41:00] CV. This is all of our debates, all of our podcasts, all of this stuff, which is all for free.

If you're a job seeker, you can see me looking there, all beautiful, and you can see you looking there. Beautiful, but in like ten, in, in, in like two pixels, isn't it? Yeah. Well, but this is back then, this is funny to look back, because this is when we started, and the production value was work in progress.

But you can find all of our stuff there, okay? You can find all of our stuff here. You can check all this stuff out. You can check out lots of free resources I've got there are free. Job Seeking Application Tracker. So let's see when it loads. Yeah, you can use all this. That's them. What I am going to do in the next one for too well is I'm, what I decided is, the stuff we've done is timeless, but what I'm going to do is Uh, now a 2021 version, which, because, because I think what's nice is then we can still cover some of the stuff from before, but add our new thoughts on it, [00:42:00] more about how we've seen people working remotely, more about our current thoughts, more insights, because a lot of what we do overlaps with before, but I thought about it, and I think it would be good to cover our new thoughts on it, and We, you know, now we've got a bit more production value and now we can have a bit more insight as well.

So, I mean, what do you think, Will? Do you like that idea of setting up a 2021 area?

Will Ridgway: I like that idea. I think the way we work now is very different from the way we worked this time last year. So I think, you know, it's, it's definitely, definitely, there is updates to be had with what we've said. I mean, more or less it's the same.

You know, it's the same, but there are different things that we will consider.

Stephen Drew: Different twists, and also because we had an hour conversation before, we might find that the conversation flows in a different way, and then they're kind of both still relevant. So that's what I've been up to on the Architecture Social.

You can find that for free. Sana has built a how to get organized, so I should really do this course. So how to build an [00:43:00] architecture brain, that's for free. And you can see here, um, the last year we did a few software skills, so you could learn Revit. That's still there. And you can see here as well that the graduate and CV portfolio guys from 2020.

So I'm going to do in here, you can see examples of CVs and critiques. I'm going to close this down to May and June, but it's going to be all the old ones are there. And you can have a look at the comments and feedback, which was shared between myself and the people submitting the CVs. Full review with their permission.

Um, okay, great. So I've got some spaces which are work in progress. Other than that, let's read one or two comments and I think what we can do is just relax and, you know, let everyone crack on with their lunch. So fabulous. Well done, Steve. Get the Practices, Join the Architecture Social and post their projects up.

Dr. Liz, it's a teamwork, um, Dr. Liz, you are a fantastic ambassador for the charity and lots of people come through you, so, um, credit to you as well. [00:44:00] Sounds like you're busy on the recruitment side, yeah, we are, which is great because that kind of affects all of us, and Stephen, not too late at all, you come as and when you please, that's the whole thing, where this is more like me and you chilling out Will, isn't it?

And so, on that note, I think what I'd love to do, Will, is to get your weekly words of wisdom so well

it's a

tough time

what are the weekly words that you can

Will Ridgway: pass on to us well my weekly words of wisdom is that we've got so many jobs on things apply to Make my life easy. No, I'm just kidding. Um, yeah, I mean, um, yeah, actually that is my weekly words of wisdom to apply to my job,

Stephen Drew: sadly.

That, they were, they were, that, that was, that was the worst. That was the worst one. That was very substantive stuff from me, wasn't it? Okay, so it's really unfair that [00:45:00] you do them all the time, so shall I do my weekly words of wisdom? What, what do you, what are your We're almost there. It's getting to the end of it.

There's light at the end of the tunnel, there are more roads. Now more than ever, look after your mental health. Let's dust off that CV. Go sign up to the Architecture Social, because that's what I made it for, it's for you guys to enjoy. Go and check out the learning section. All the resources we've done before.

Check it out and let me know your thoughts. And the word we whisper. The reason for me is, look at all the people getting involved here, well, I look at Dr. Liz, she's super involved. I love Dr. Liz. Look at all the people who are saying hello in the socialist community. I want less pictures of Stephen Drew everywhere, and I want pictures of everyone.

So, get involved in the conversation. Lloyd asked, Tariq's asked a question, does anyone know [00:46:00] any, um, she's, he's doing a project about, um, about a new Parliament, does anyone, um, have a particular architecture style to get involved, have the conversation, and we will see you next week, alright? We will see you, we will see you next week.

everyone, it's been a pleasure, I

think she said. Oh, yeah, do you like my artwork that I did? I did this during my part two, so if you like it, I'm going to put a print on the architecture social to see if anyone buys it other than my mother. Let me see if

I can get two sales. That'll be good, wouldn't it?

Thank you everyone for joining. Oh, we got one or two last questions. Lucas. Oh, Lucas. I met Lucas last week from the MSSA. He is an absolute gentleman. Avenger style. Hey, this is how We Rock Avenger style. You haven't hear

my voice, my What's the guy with the click in the fingers wrong? [00:47:00] Oh, this is my fan voice.

I'll for another time. If you join Duns and Dragons next week, you'll hear it. Alright everyone, I've been Steven Drew, thank you so much for this week. We're Rich Way. You can contact us on work. This has been our lunch break. We are literally going to be completely available on recruitment. It's going to be a busy day and we will see you next week.

Take care, everyone.

Will Ridgway: Bye.

Stephen Drew: Oh, wait. Well, keep holding quickly. And just keep polling. We've got to put like a meme on. So, um, yeah. There's the girl coming in the office. See you next week. Bye. Yeah. Bye.
